According to the report card, Texas has the worst reports of any state. I am proud to be from the north where folks take pride in what they do.

I have been in Texas for 19 yrs and have seen some of the laziest, dumbest country folk ever. And im in Dallas!!!

Sorry

Bad hair day

Charlie :)

Well, my first experience is: no return email in 2 days. kind of disappointing.

All former Texas Longhorn football players no doubt. HAAAAAAAAA!!

Harpo

Sorry, sometimes when ya see something just laying there ya just gotta kick it.

Now don't you southern folks go jumpin down any throats here, but a lot of family relocated to SC to escape the results of my snow dances. Anyhow, my aunt works for an employment agency, and she says the snatch northerners every chance they get, because all the companies usually prefer them. The work ethic, at least in SC, is horrible. I don't know if it's so much the people, well yes, they obviously are lacking some principles, but it sounds a lot like VT to me. Relax Buzz, when I worked in VT, there were so many laws protecting lazy, unworthy employees, and SO many more jobs than in NY, that folks could act however they wanted at work. They wouldn't get fired, and if they did, or quit, they had another job by the end of the week. In P'burgh, it's not that easy, so people here work harder for less. I fired 12 people in one week at Wally world in Williston for theft! In a year we fired over 40. Worst store in the district. Really makes you wonder what the root cause is. I think it's a combination of things. Sounds like TX has the same problems.

Charlie,

Not all Texas dealers are bad. I am one of the members that gave a bad report card to the Texas dealer "Dusty Rhodes" or as I like to call them "Rusty Toad". Because they are terrible. But East Texas Boat World in Longview is a great dealer very helpful makes, good deals, super friendly people. KENNY

If it is that bad, all it takes is one really good dealer to make a huge impact. They will take the bulk of business from the lesser companies and flourish. Then the lesser companies have 2 choices, improve our go under. Sounds like someone needs to open a 1st class dealership in that area. Ken, how about that, before your run for prez???

OK, I'll jump in now...

TX is a HUGE state with only a few Nitro/Tracker dealers and two of them happen to SUCK!

No offense to Rich, but I hardly think the Dealer Report Card is a representative cross-sample of the nation and its quality standards as related to boat dealers.

Further, the North/South thing is BUNK! Many, many years ago a comment like this might have held water. However, we are such a transient society that this statement cannot even pretend to be accurate. I live on the corner of two very long streets and have met the majority of the folks living on both of these streets. Only ONE of those individuals is from Texas. The 45-50 others are all transplants...the majority of them from the north.

While this is far from scientific, I see it every day at work. As a consultant to retail auto dealerships, I meet professional salespeople all the time that have moved to Texas (typically from WAY up north) because of the outstanding car market we have. Try selling cars in Michigan or Ohio (union salespeople)...9 to 5, no weekends and all A-X-Z plan (no gross!!)

You say you're proud to be from the north where people take pride in what they do....what hole in the Texas dirt do you live in?? I've lived all over the world and can't think of a single state with more pride than Texas. Tons of labor, no big unions, huge GDP, strong economy, our own genre of music, fiddles, chili, dancing.....I could go on forever.

Obviously, I disagree. Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you don't like it, go back north! Plenty of carpetbaggers down here already, don't need any more negativity.

Side Note: I lived up north for quite awhile (believe that's called scalawagging), and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Beautiful country with all of my favorite outdoor activities (when you can stand the weather!). Too bad ya'll talk so funny...

Adam,

I agreed with your post until you stated that we talk funny. From our standpoint, it is not us!! LOL

Anyways, my local number is 512-832-4381. My classes don't end until 7:30pm. I'll give you a call in the evening.

Bob G.

Yep, Y'all head South where car salesmen are considered "professionals". YeeeeHaww.

Just Kidding.....Relax. Seems to me there's a lot of undie bunching giong on here lately!!

TOXIC

Hey relax there Adam, people just making some observations. And personally, if I were to move to another state, TX would be it. That way of life seems to hit the button for me. No BS, they call a spade a spade and punish their criminals. Here in good old liberal NY, we put them up and educate them and feed them and they get the royal treatment. I was just making an observation of what I've been told. I had a good friend relocate to Charlotte as an architect, and the firm is now 70% northerners. He told me the same thing my aunt did. It was very hard to get qualified, ambitious locals. By the sounds of your neighborhood, they is some truth to it. And of course you can't paint all the people in a state or area with a single brush stroke. I also noted that it happens right up here across the pond in VT. I think a lot of it stems from how people are raised and then how the local work environment responds. In VT, they practically reward folks like that. Thieves get hired across the road at a higher rate of pay, cause the employers just can't get anyone else. And I'm with Bob, we don't talk funny, MA people do! LOL Lets get New England wriled up too! LOL Durn fever.

There once was a boy from Plattsburgh who went across the border to Vermont and got himself a pretty little wife. After the honeymoon night, the boy showed up back at his parents home.

His father asked him what happened.

He told him that on their honeymoon night he found out she was a virgin.

Dad asked him why there was a problem with that.

The boy responded: "If she's not good enough for her own family, she's not good enough for ours".

Little lowbrow humor!!

No undie bunching here (rarely wear 'em anyway)...just not a big fan of generalizations.

I know we (car salespeople) often get a bad name, but believe it or not, there are MANY true professionals out there that make alot of money and are very honest and sincere. They work long, long hours and live off of repeat and referral business.

The reason they tend to migrate to Texas, as I said above, we have an awesome market with HUGE dealerships and not alot of crap. As Kraig can probably attest to, the Texas AG doesn't let us get away with anything. No jick here.

And, for the record, all of ya'll talk funny!

I am not discussing the salesmen, just the ads on the TV and radio. "No credit application refused" comes to mind. OF COURSE a dealership won't refuse to have someone fill out a form. But the fact that there are such lousy car ads pretty much tells me that the dealerships think we're all a bunch of morons.

Now that I know you guys have such huge grosses, I'll make sure to get it for $3000 UNDER invoice :).

LOL I love it. stir the pot then watch it boil he he

ok I read all the above and all I have to say is Dumb, Lazy, Redneck Texans only have pride in three things their Pick Up trucks, Boots and Woman in that order.... LOL

Go for it. I really do love the way Texas deals with criminals. Saving me some tax money. oh yea

stir stir stir LOL

Charlie

Very ambitious Yankee showing the southerners how to do it!!

oops I forgot..... bass boat is third, and im just jokin so dont get ya'lls panties in a wad...

I could start talkin about OKies I have heard plenty about them LOL im done have fun with this one

Charlie...I can only hope that was in jest.

Mike...I know what you're saying. Advertising is what brought me to Texas originally. I was an AE for a HUGE automotive advertising agency. We don't necessarily think YOU are a moron, however...that statement is VERY effective and falls within the VERY strict guidelines set by the AG.

I jumped in on this thread a couple of days ago with a flippant jab at Texas football which is an old time tradition and is understood between Texans and Sooners. I assure you I wouldn't jab at something I didn't respect. Nobody in Texas or Oklahoma makes jokes about Ivy League football because their is nothing to tease. Great academics maybe, but that is to be expected in any great university. I've been lurking around since watching this thing get kind of rude and nasty so I thought I'd throw in my two cents.

Charlie, if you say everyone in Dallas are dumb, lazy rednecks then I say you have wasted 19 years of your life living there. Maybe you should get in your car (I'm sure you wouldn't be seen dead in a pickup) and drive down to the corner of Preston Road & Mockingbird and see how many pickup driving rednecks you see there. Cruise on over to Turtlecreek Drive and take a look see. Not that I have any huge love affair with oil millionaires, but I just want you to see not everybody in Texas looks like your next door neighbor in Garland. Maybe try some of the many art museums or the Dallas Symphony. Have you been to downtown Dallas? That doesn't look like the work of lazy country folk. And even if it were, what is wrong with country folk? Country folk feed this nation, they dig the coal and cut the timber and build the automobiles and boats and then climb up in the cab of an 18 wheeler and haul it all across the nation. I'd like to see some union worker from New York City pick cotton. We would all be wearing polyester blue jeans, that's for sure. I have traveled all over this country and have seen wonderful people working hard to keep their families fed & clothed and maybe they don't look like what you think they ought to, that is no reason to insult them. I have also seen some scumbags too. I've seen them in New York and California and Florida and Ohio as well as Texas and Oklahoma. But you know what each and every one of them were Americans and as such they are a part of the whole fabric that makes up America and should be treated with respect. They are like a member of the family love 'em or hate 'em --Redneck or Yankee, Hoosier or Cajun they're really all the same folks. I have also found that anywhere you live can be hell or paridise it's up to you and people usually give back what you give them. So if you are having trouble in Texas, just maybe you ought to look inside yourself.

So let's all reach around to our backsides and grab a handful of panty and PULL.

A boy comes home from church services one Sunday morning with two black eyes. His father saw the black eyes and ask the boy, "Son how did you get those two black eyes? You haven't been fighting in Sunday School have you?

"Oh no," the boy answered. "What happened was we all got up to sing and I noticed that a fat lady in front of me had her dress stuck up in her crack, so I thought I'd do the lady a favor and pull it out. When I did she turned around and hit me in the eye".

"So how did you get the other black eye?" the boys father asked.

"Weeell, we all got up to sing again and I noticed the fat lady's dress wasn't up in her butt this time and I thought that's where she wanted it, soooooo I put it back in"

You're a good man, Harpo! Can't wait to meet you next month. Better words could not have been written to express my thoughts (at midnight, no less!)

Hey Harpo,

How did you post ahead of time??

Bob G.

Harpo,

Your post about the black eyes is dated "3/13/2003 23:04 CT" as I am seeing it now and as I saw it this morning. It's not even that time yet.

Ok, I went to preferences and changed my local time zone to Eastern and your post showed up 3/13/2003 00:04 ET. Since I am currently in Texas, I changed my local time to Central. I think that your time went back an hour, but the date stayed the same. Looks like a software bug.
