We just purchased a leftover 2024 Tracker Pro 170 with a Mercury 50 hp 4 stroke EFI motor. The OEM prop sticker on it shows 12 x 22 1.83:1 and it pushes the boat with 2 people / gear 35-36 mph at a hair over 6000 rpm.
I've read several posts in which the Mercury Spitfire 4 blade prop was highly recommended so I'm thinking about picking one up and keeping the OEM 3 blade prop in the boat in case of emergencies. Earlier today I stumbled onto the Mercury Prop Selector and I have some questions.
According to the Prop Selector the best option for my Pro 170 would be a Spitfire Elite Series 4-Blade Aluminum, 12.8” Dia. X 15” Pitch, Right Hand Rotation - Part Number 488M8026580. I looked everywhere on the internet for a Spitfire Elite 12.8" x 15" prop and couldn't find one.
Then I tried Mercury Part Number 488M8026580 and the description came up as a Spitfire 4 Blade 13.4" Dia x 15" Pitch... Even on Mercury's part website. I'm guessing Mercury made a change from the 12.8" Dia to 13.4" Dia at some point and the Prop Selector was not updated.
Anyhow, my question is, has anyone switched their Mercury 50 hp 4 stroke EFI to the Spitfire 13.4" x 15 prop? If so, can you please tell me what kind of performance changes you have seen. Thanks
