In 1997 in the US there were 200-250 million firearms and 60-65 million owners. Assuming that the average home has 3 firearms thats 187.5 million firearms leaving approximately 32.5 million unaccounted for.
Hand guns: 75-80 million with 30-35 million owners, if the average were 2 per owner, that leaves 7 million unaccounted for.
The NRA has given 11 times more funds for research than gun control lobbyists to Washington!
Only 1 in 14 violent crimes results in a prison sentence. SO.... In 1997, 440,000 crimes were committed using firearms, which means only 31,728 convictions or better, ***408,572*** KNOWN felons walking the streets in YOUR neighborhoods!
Average prison stay for murder: 10 years
Rape: 7.6 years, Aggravated assault: 3.4 years. So is your life or your wife's or daughters only worth 7-10 years of some scumbags?
In the mid 1900's, convicted felons out on parole committed 5,000 murders, 17,000 rapes, and 200,000 aggravated assaults ANNUALLY!
Americans use firearms to protect themselves about 760,000 a year, GEE what would happen to homicide rates if those LAW ABIDING folks couldn't have firearms? WELL lets just read on, shall we!
In the 10 states that adopted Right to Carry laws in the late '80s and '90s:
For 1995: only 1 accidental death in ALL 10 states, but
316 less murders, 939 less rapes, and 14,702 less aggravated assaults from the previous year. Mmmmm?
Florida adopted right to carry in 1987, and politicians forcasted dramatic increases in violent crimes with firearms. ACTUALLY between 1987 and 1996
Homicides were DOWN 36% while nationally remained unchanged
firearm hmoicides (the biggie) DOWN 37% while up 15% nationally
handgun homicides DOWN TOO 41% while up 24% nationally.
In 1976 Washington Dc enacted a blanket handgun ban. Since 1976 homicides there rose 200% while nationally only 12%
Between 1987 and 1994 in FL, 221,443 permits to carry were issued, only 18 of those people committed crimes with their firearms or 2.5 per year!
In 1990 the ATF found that only 7% of armed carreer criminals obtained their firearm though a licensed dealer. Leaving the other 97% to get from black market or stolen.
SO.......YOU tell me.....have I missed something? WHERE? WHEN? and HOW exactly does gun control work? IN FACT it does just the opposite, the numbers don't lie!
