Having just got a satellite dish I once again have access to fishing shows I haven't watched in several years. I was watching the Outdoor Channel last night (Monday Night Fishing)and they had Babe Winkleman on. I thought his wife's name was Charlie not Chris. The cooking segment threw me. Am I loosing it or what?

Her name was Chris the last time I watched the show.

Babe and Charlie got a divorce a few years ago....."Chris" is his new keeper.....

I seen him with her in Omaha last winter and didn't recognize her from any of the past shows. Thanks Mac

I don't care for the Babe. A long time ago, during my college years, I worked at a fishing and hunting store called Kelley's (Mac is probably familiar, now KD Outdoors). I had the pleasure (if you want to call it that) of meeting and chatting with the Babe at one of the local sport shows that the store set up shop at. Myself and several other of the employees hung out with him for some time. Needless to say, his arrogance really rubbed me the wrong way. But, like most, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was just having a bad day.

I got to speak with him last spring at a sports show...

I asked him, of all the 'dream' fishing trips he'd taken, what was the best, in terms of the best fighting fish?

His answer kind of surprised me...

He said "sight fishing" for giant northern pike in Northern Canada was the best!

Burst my bubble! I was thinking it would have been peacock bass in the Amazon...

I've always kind of liked him but his show(s) haven't really changed a whole lot since I first started watching him way back when I lived in a town big enough for cable. Kind of boring now. I'll take "Totally Hooked" on ESPN 2 they don't fish for bass but who cares when the fisher people look like they do.

I have had dinner and drinks with Babe...he is actually a nice guy....

Funny this topic came up. Actually had a Babe Winkleman "experience" last week.

Was watching one of his episodes featuring a goose hunt up in Canada. Appeared extremely amateur and seemed there was more shooting than actual hunting. Skyblasting at huge flocks of birds a hundred yards away is not exactly hunting in my book.

As an avid waterfowler, nothing pisses me off more than flock shooting birds outside of the decoys. As a Southern waterfowler, I'm further incensed when yankees do it. Nothing worse than trying to call birds that have been "educated" from the tip of North America to Texas.

I sent an e-mail stating the above (a bit more gracious) to Babe's website. Never really expected a reply, however, less than 12 hours from the time I sent my original message Babe, himself, sent me a reply.

Quite elegantly, he informed me that he was not on the hunt but I should expect a message soon from the producer and one of the members of the hunt.

One day later I received a great message from the producer talking about the hunt and deceptive camera angles creating the illusion of longer shot lengths. He was rather apologetic about what was perceived and said future videos would be better edited.

Thought a memo from Babe was pretty classy and his producer sounds like a pretty stand up guy. Too bad they talk so dang funny!

Yep, I made it! Have been back several more times since our little escapade. Didn't have near as much fun, though (except I saved some money NOT buying certain things for certain women)!!

Wish ya'll were out here with me this week...working for 5 days at Beverly Hills BMW. Staying at the Sofitel, driving a brand new 5 series and partying like a rock star! One of the kids I'm training has a band playing at the Whiskey tonight and it's rumored they have a pretty good celebrity following. Should be a hoot!

We've discussed this yankee thing before. I lived up there to merely pass along the virtues of living south of the Mason-Dixon. I failed, though...ya'll are hopeless! They'll never figure out the proper way to prepare grits or biscuits and gravy.

Say HI to Shania for me if she pops into the Whiskey tonite!!! Tell her I'm slowly getting over our "misunderstanding"...

Thanks dude,..

Mac

But you were here....Southerners still dont know how to drive, especially in the snow..lol

Send me a ticket, I will show that youngin how to party like a rock star....

Looks like I will be in Texas in Nov.....try to keep your liver in one piece...Houston will never be the same.

Adam, As a Northern Yankee Waterfowler,i just thought i would let you in on a secret. We purposely try to educate some of those ducks so that ya'll with your astronomical limits down that way dont get to shoot them all.We have limits in this area of 3 ducks.and only 1 mallard hen.Seems we are doing ya'll a favor down there.Kind of nice of us to save all them ducks so your limits are higher dont you agree. You go hunting and get to spend the day at it.I go out, spread my deeks and 20 minutes after daybreak i am done and go home.Because of us,you get to hunt all day.Your welcome :)
