Rod Strap Ideas for 2021 Nitro Z 20 Pro

Any ideas on rod strap for new Z20 Pro?

I haven't done it- but I think you can get the retractable belt setup that installs inside the rod box behind the hinges up in the gunnel cavity there. I would also like to know if someone has done an install with those?

It is almost impossible to use without bending your rods into a tight arc around the seat arm. Very poor design.

I am actually looking for straps up front. has anyone installed the retractable? Do I have to cut into the gunwale to make room for it?

You have to wonder how anyone rigging thought that was a good idea..... the way it is set up on the Z-18 is useless.

I saw those too, but I wonder with our short gunnels if they would work with the newer Z models.

I just added those last week to my 2021 Z19. Easy in deck install. Gunwales are too thin so I put them in the deck.

I just added those last week to my 2021 Z19. Easy in deck install. Gunwales are too thin so I put them in the deck.

It comes with a template. I drilled a hole in each corner and used a med blade in a jig saw. Easy to cut but make sure you position it where there are no obstructions underneath. I positioned it to reuse one of the holes left by the factory loops I removed. You can easily see the underside through the rod lockers. I had no issue pulling the carpet but you could use a box cutter on the cut lines just as additional insurance. I got mine from Amazon because I couldn’t find any locally.

You can use a box cutter to cut through the cut lines before cutting the deck. I did not and experienced no pulling but probably would have been smart to precut the carpet.

Installed like that on my 2008 Z9 used a soldering iron on edge of carpet to melt the carpet edge under retract flange. Carpet has never unraveled
