Hey Gang - OK gotta sell the Tracker openly now, so having not done this for 6 years and the last one was a $800 boat. Whats the best places to advertise??

I'm already posting on this Swap/Sell, on another local fishing site (bassfishingnetwork.com) and BFHP, all free. Got color brochures ready to post in the local baitshops at lunch tomorrow. Debating on the pay sites (boattraderonline.com. bassboatcentral.com, iboats.com...) this early. Also wondering about the local papers?

So those of you who have sold/bought a used boat in the last few years, how did you find it and where did you list it??

When I bought mine I skimmed bassboatcentral but I looked in detail at my local newspapers since I felt that the closer the better. However, this was my first boat...

Good Luck!

Trep - we've talked some about this. I listed the Targa on about 6 or 7 sites (some pay). I wound up selling it via Iboats.com. I don't think that I ever got a 'bite' from anywhere except hear (NTOWS) and IBoats sites.

Personally, I don't really think boattraderonline is attractive, but that's just me. If you do advertise on IBoats (or other internet sites), you probably need to be able to do some type of 'joint delivery'. My guy was in Wisconsin, and we met halfway (distance - not price).

Obviously, look and see what is posted out on some of the sites. Just remember, all those 'extras' that you have are really only worth helping move your rig. They are not really items that you can get your money back on.

Michael,

When I sold my glass boat a few years back I listed it on boattraderonline and it was gone in a week. A couple from way down in Virginia somewhere drove up and took it away.

When I bought my tin boat I went online and searched the classifieds for "Bassboats", "boats", "Tracker", "small boats", "Aluminum boats", etc. I believe I finally found it with the "Tracker" search on the eastern shore of Maryland not too far past where you and I fished.

If I were you I would get busy because there will be a plethora or boats on the market soon.

Your pictures look good so I know that boat is someones dream to own, like it was yours.

Good Luck, Bill

btw...if you don't say good morning in the good morning thread each morning you just may never sell it you know?

I think boattraderonline.com is effective: I've purchased two boats from adds there.

Michael, AJC.com is also worthwhile.

Trep,

Put mine in the local "Wheels and Deals" magazine and sold it to the first caller.

Don't know if they have one in the Atlanta area, but here they are in every gas station/convienience mart in the area.

Good Luck!

Tom

How about craigslist.com if there's a city specific site for near you? Nice thing about craigslist (versus ebay) is that you set the price you want and you know that with city specific lists, that locals are looking at your boat. For the Atlanta, GA region, try http://atlanta.craigslist.org/

JC

ps: watch out for the calls from folks "overseas" or those looking to "help" you sell. Having sold a few cars and one motorcycle, I was amazed at the people looking to milk you for money to "help" you sell. The overseas guys tend to be scams (like they don't have boats for sale outside the U.S.!).

JC - Funny you should mention craigslist.org, my wife mentioned that and we posted it a few hours ago!!

We're currently having a bit of a discussion. do you A) initialy cover the local and FREE sites/adds and give it a month or so and see if that work, and then expand and start paying or B) do you cover local and free AND the key (as some suggested maybe bassboatcentral.com, boattraderonline.com, iboats.com, or paper boat/auto trader mags) to get maximum coverage up front??

For a few bucks, I would try a couple days or so in a nearby metro area (Atlanta?) newspaper. Could be a quick, local sell.

Good luck...DH

This time of year is the buyers market, not necessarily the sellers. You might want to consider a late winter/early spring time frame to pay for advertising your boat. The end of the season always gluts the boat market. You could very well get a better price in the spring over now. Just a thought.

Trep,

I have sold everyone of my boats off of boat trader online.

Check to see if your state federation site has a classified section. Here in VA it is free for anyone to use.
