LOL Nice title eh? Thats how I feel... Sometimes some salesmen just don't get it. Well as I am sure some of you are aware of I was very interested in a boat over in Indiana. I had the guy send me pics, and you saw the scratches and what not. Well he wouldn't come down anymore in price, no biggie. But now he is starting to catch an attitude with me because I wanted more pics of the major scratch where the red met the black on the starboard side of the hull. Now mind you I have already asked 3 times for pictures of the skeg and motor. Still no pics.

Why the need to get nasty and have an attitude? Maybe he just don't get it that he just lost a sale. I was prepared to drive out their tomorrow and check out the boat. If I am gunna spend my $$$ and drive 12 hours he better be sweet as pie baby.

Don't mind me I'm just ranting...

Talk to his boss and "splain" the situation. Then tell him, you will take the boat but for only.....XXX dollars. Take it or leave it. They'll take it. Good luck. Don't let some jerk stand between you and a good boat!

Problem is his boss is his father... LOL And he has just about the same amount of class as his son...

Screw em... Yanno what I mean..

I just came across a 97 tr20 in South Carolina... Got some pics not too bad... Now I gotta think whether or not my 98 blazer will tow her...

The joys of boat shopping..

I am in NY... The boat is at Lake City, SC.

Here is a url to the boat pics..

Move on jason....if you are not completely sure, you never will be.

Pierre

OK summptons wrong here. Didn't SOMEBODY on the Nitroowners.com techincal team disable all NON Nitro search criteria on Jason's PC? HOW could this have happened?

Listen carefuly Jason (there are 2 swirling watches infront of you) - "You only want a Nitro, you only want a Nitro"

Hey Jason, What kind of boat do you want??

Jason responds - I only want a Nitro, I only want a Nitro!

Pierre what if I give you 15k plus the 2k difference in slim jims? Deal? This way this agonizing search I am going through will finaly come to an end. LOL

Trep... I am starting to feel very very very.....

And I have to say that this is all that !@$%^ mother natures fault!

LOL

Jason, in the words of a famous iquana..."Let it go, Lou".

When you deal with someone who wants to sell you something, and they are not willing to help you work through tough issues, like buying a boat hundreds of miles away without seeing it first hand, it's not worth another phone call. Too many (Nitro brand) fish in the sea.

i agree with rich. after ya drive 12hrs they don't sound interested in helping you out. jason, don't know if ya noticed but there is a 896 on the swap and sell reduced to 14,900 that sounds real good. might check it out if you havn't all ready. anyways, the right boat will come along at the right price. just buy the boat that YOU want cause it usually costs too much money to sell and then buy another. hang in there.

Jason:

Never ever forget that "YOU ARE THE MAN!" You are the most important guy in the deal. You're the guy with the money. Remember, he has to get rid of the boat but you don't have to buy it. If the guy doesn't want your money there are others that do. HOLD OUT UNTIL YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT AT YOUR PRICE.

Bear

Beck.. No I never fishe that lake before... YOu got that right Da Bear! It just amazes me that these guys thought that they would still make a sale after that...

Funny thing is they sent me another picture this afternoon (again with no motor pics) and yet the scratches have all disappeared. LOL

Either they photoshoped the pic or waxed the boat... LOL

that was bowers who moved out, they have 3 other stores down south of me,but nothing locally.that url i sent has more boats on them, but not too close.to go that far to look at a boat i wouldnt buy it.there are a few on ebay, but they are 17 ft nitros, one 20 ft.

let me know, there are a few dealers round here who might have a nitro there, try bakkersmarine.com,or try capri marina,570-226-3819.

try thepapershop.com,it is a local swap paper here online, they sometimes have nitros in there locally.

you near the hudson river there?i had a time finding chester on the map.heard some good fishing out of there.used to go to newburg to fix equiptment for a company i used to work for.

you still got your boat?or you sell it?

jason, i echo bear's sentiment exactly... it's YOUR money, YOU are in the driver's seat..... be patient..... and remember,YOU da man...... forget 'em if they have an attitude......

Internet sales is a double-edged sword and, as in all problematic issues, there is two sides to every story. The problem you experienced with this salesman is an oft repeated story in automotive internet sales.

The internet opened up a whole new world of informed SHOPPERS that were previously unreachable through traditional forms of advertising. It also created a massive number of DREAMERS!

The average retail automotive internet department gets over 1,500 hits a month (compared to an average 400 warm bodies in the showroom). The internet shopper expects an immediate reply and invoice pricing from edmonds.com on their dream vehicle that is probably not even in stock. Almost a third of these "shoppers" won't even qualify for a retail loan. A good internet closing ratio is 10% (compared to 25% for floor traffic).

The dreamers make up another third. Usually kids under 18 who can't buy/afford a car building their dream ride. Sometimes they're adults with too much time on their hands. Imagine 500 people wanting immediate responses to their 3rd or 4th e-mail wanting a better price on a car they'll never buy. The worst ones want you to send multiple pics of the vehicle, vehix.com reports and every piece of literature available on the car.

Many dealerships simply said, "screw it" and dismantled their internet departments. Not worth the time, hassle or money. As the end user, we think advertising on the net MUST be cheap...WRONG!! Many factors dramatically effect the bottom line due to internet sales. All to sell a car that nobody makes money on. Not a good biz model.

Am I saying you're wrong for asking for pics of your potential purchase? NO!!

Is the salesperson wrong for being rude to you? YES!!

I just wanted to put it in perspective and possibly help you understand why he acted in this manner. I would imagine retail boat "dreamers" are even worse than car "dreamers". However, if a dealer is going to hang his shingle on the internet, you'd better know how to play the game, take a grain of salt with each deal and try to help everyone.

My advice, get the dude on the phone and explain how serious you are. Fax him a copy of your drivers license and let him run a credit check...this way, he'll know you're not 15 years old and you're financially able to purchase.

Call Bob Bourget at MarineUSA in Worcester, MA.

Bob is a VERY valued member of this board and he's one heck of a lot closer to you than some of the other places you've been looking!

Adam I am neither a dreamer or someone who hasn't qualified for a loan. I have a pre approval on a loan and this dealer knew that. Hell I was ready to head out their Friday and pick it up.

When I say I am going to do something I do it. For 2 days straight now I have been promised pictures of the motor on this boat. The first day I get told their Internet was down and then the second day he says he sent them. That right there is a lie. How long does it honestly take to snap 2 or 3 pictures of the skeg and lower unit? How long does it take to then turn those 200,000 kilobyte pictures into 50k or 60k? I can batch process 5000 pictures within 20 minutes with my pc.

Oh and all the dealings I had with these gentlemen was via phone. Expect for when they did email me before and after pics of the boat. You should see it now, not a scratch in her! ROFL

I understand that there are two sides to every story, but come on. How many chances do they get? Once the dealer lies the first time he losses my sale. I don't have time for the games.

But then again you do make a good point about dreamers. Surfing the internet is the easiest way to "window browse". There is no expense involved. Did you know that about 90%, (I'd say more like 98%), of a websites traffic does NOT purchase a thing from that website. That is why the dotcom busted. People were charging ridiculous amounts of money for advertising. What was it something like 8$ per 1000 BANNER impressions at its peak? So you buy 1000 banner impressions and lets be generous and say you get 4% click through rate from that banner to your website. Thats a whopping 40 FRESH new visitors to your site for $8. Do you know what % of those 40 visitors would buy? I would say you where lucky if you made 1 sale every 200 visitors. I should know... I have been working and running my own biz online for 4 years now. And btw I never purchased banner impressions. ;) Just straight traffic baby!!!!

It takes Tin to Win...

Marke has his awesome TV-18 up for sale on the Swap and Sell...

It's only got a 90, but it will take a 150!

I'll jump in a bit here:

Jason - As others have said, find a different boat and leave this dealer to find someone else. In today's informed consumer arena, if he is not willing to work with you for a 12 hour drive, then he looses. I have NEVER even thought of traveling more then 1-2 hours to buy a boat and NO more then 45 minutes for a car. Now, I do live in a very heavily populated area of north Atlanta and both Car and Boat dealers are ALL over the place. Keep up the search, and get the boat YOU want!

On the "Fax him a copy of your drivers license and let him run a credit check" I do NOT agree. As most of you know, each time you have someone run a credit check it puts a mark on your credit report that someone checked your credit. Your credit score, what banks/finance folks, USE to decide IF they finance you and HOW high the rate is, is directly effected (not the only criteria mind you) by HOW MANY hits to check your credit are done in a period of time. So, I ALWAYS secure my loans, as Andy has, pre-approved BEFORE I shop. I surf a lot and keep my personal information very secure and ONLY release it to vendors I am ready to buy from at that time.

On Cars, i've bought 3 cars from Carmax.com BECAUSE I can shop 100% on-line till I find the car/van/wagon I want and then drive over to test drive it/them. I DO NOT let them check my credit UNTIL I'm ready to sign and drive with MY check!

Adam - I agree 100% with the rest of your post on traffic and advertising! In today's economy boat (and car) buyers are in the DRIVERs seat, and if one has patience can find what they want. I agree that when buying the vendor has GOT to make $$, that's what their in business to do. But they can not also expect a potential customer to drive 12 hours with out 100% confidence in the product. Yes, i agree the salesguy MIGHT have thought Andy was yanking his chain, but if they've talked on the phone and such, it was a RISK that the salesguy took to delay and he lost. Such is life in sales.

TrepMan

Wait! you'll find one thats closer. Don't rush in to the deal. $14k is alot of money if your not sure of the condition and the dealer will not work w/ you
