Oh yeah, feeling much better now and doing more (wife always fusses at me for trying to do too much when I get my chest to hurting) but it feels GREAT to be able to do way more than I could last year (which was NOTHING). Was hoping to go fishing this weekend, but looks like the cold weather and winds are coming to sock us in again after teasing us for a couple days with 60 degree weather (2nd warmer day was BLOWING HARD).

Glad you are getting better and I understand when the wife fusses that you are doing to much. After back surgery, operational therapy taught me how to put on my socks and shoes by myself, guess who thought they should do it for me?:):) Love her to death, but give a chance.

Heck, she can barely do anything anyways but she tries. After all, she just recovered from surgery for her 2nd cancer bout so we're 2 peas in a pod although I think I can do a little more than she can LOL. Sure was nice to work out in the yard yesterday putting refinements to my electric fence and now I've got the grape vine fenced off. We're still hoping it'll recover to produces grapes in August/Sept but he's chewed big hunks out of the main trunk. Figure out a way to install gates so I could get the bass boat out and the yard equipment out. Course at 2:30 am I woke up with terrible pain in the right knee cap again. Could NOT get it comfortable so I could get back to sleep, so 2 diclofenac tablets (anti inflammatory that works but kills my kidneys) and 2 pain killers and 20 minutes later slept until 1pm. Side effects though is I stay groggy almost all day.

Yeah, I know she worries about me. Its been rough for her with her stuff going on, much less mine but at least its better than 2009-2011 was. Me I worry about her cause ANY time she gets out of her wheelchair, it doesn't take much to trip her up and once it starts, its like TIMBER! and bang. Yep, having MD sucks for her plus the cancer crap on top of that. But we have to take care of our ladies any way we can. :D

AF, good to read your surgery went well are you are able to be me more active. Best wishes to you and your wife.

Hey glad to see you back on the board - got several new members wanting name changes :D Hows fishing?

AF, glad things are looking good for you and your wife. Sort of my turn.... fell apart in the driveway.... back trouble, skin cancer on my nose and some kidney/bladder problems... As near as I can figure it, five doctors are getting a new condo and golf for life at my insurance comapny's expense....lol. Good news is none of them think I am going anywhere permanent....

Be careful of those skin cancers, once you get them it easier to get them. I wished the VA could/would do something about my knees so I wouldn't have to use the wheelchair so much. Course they did give me one of those "HELP I've fallen and I can't get up" pendant and a thingy for my pacemaker/defib to call home and give them stats. LOL. Speaking of the back, I don't know what they could do for mine but I think its more of a arthritis/bursitis since most of my joints give me fits (can't lay flat on my back). I've accidentally locked up my back a couple of times - oh that ain't fun.

Falling apart in the driveway had to hurt pretty good.

Well back to the hospital in the morning so probably won't be on after the morning check, hopefully home by Friday if they can get the fluids off - bad when you're drowning from the inside.

Good luck, prayers sent and will be thinking of you. My Ortho is scheduling back cortisone shots.....

well gonna be longer but at least I used my computer skills to get myself wireless access. Nashville Vanderbilt VA doesn't exactly have GUEST internet services but once I determined my android cell phone could get access, I connected it to my laptop and configure the phone to give my laptop access through the usb cable. BINGO and here I am. But don't look like I'm going home before Tuesday. I came in weighing 269 (should weigh 240 or less) and as of this morning weigh 252 (only lost 2 lbs since yesterday) - I've got another 8 to 12lbs to go before I can go home. But this morning was the first day I could stand up on my bad knee (they started work on that Wednesday). They determined through blood tests I have gout which explains why sometimes my right knee, back and neck goes wacko so the bone specialist doctor had me assigned to her instead of Murfreesboro TN VA (get the run around over there since 2005).

So making slow progress, but at least its progress. I am bored slap silly in the hospital and seems my roommates tend to be other veterans who are alcoholics and drug abusers and now I see where the money is going (in my opinion needlessly). Guy comes in after his buddy after a night of drinking stomps the crap outta him and broke his arm. But he's so hyped up on drugs, they have to wait several days to do surgery but what does he does as soon as he's admitted as my roommate - goes out for a cigarette and is gone almost 2 hours, comes back even drunker and doped up even more. geez and the guy needs surgery but he keeps delaying it. Wish he'd take a bath too, I'm allergic to cigarette smoke. Oh well, wonder if they'll move me to another room, can't guarantee I'd get a better roommate though.

but having access to you guys makes me feel better :);)

Glad you are staring to get better. Know what you mean about some of the other vets. When I see how some of them don't even try to take care of themselves it is disgusting. A man has to try and do the best that he can to take care of himself. Life is to short to go around hating yourself. Enjoy what time we have left on the earth. We are all getting to the age that we don't have a lot time left. Enjoy it while you can. God bless you AirForce and get well soon.

Get well and best to you. I use the VA for service connected only. I know some that think it is their family Dr.

wish it could help the wife but social worker is sending somebody out to look at the house to see what improvements need to be made (just for me). Right now I can't get in the bathroom from the chair, so if the knee or something else acts up I have to use the walker, and even then its hard to get in that little bathroom although when the wife and I bought the house we had both bathrooms converted to walk in showers and added grab rails in and out. I can still reach the grab rail on the shower from the toilet so its not real bad on my knees. Sure would be great though if I could get the bedroom door opening wider so I could get the chair in without knocking the door off the hinges (like we have on my computer room & bedroom) - course wife is guilty of both offenses :D It'll be a long process but they said too they will submit a new claim (I bought my wheelchair since I couldn't use the VA scooter), so I'll get reevaluated for a wheelchair since my mobility has greatly decreased from when I got the scooter (ended up giving it to another vet few months ago).. Shame that the VA made it hard on me that I couldn't donate it to a vet that needed it and it was more paperwork to give it back only to have them destroy it (that just didn't make sense to me). But I waited 3+ years before I gave it away. My handicap lift broke by then anyways, so at least if I'm approved, I'll get a new lift for it (then I can donate my broken lift - just needs a new outrageous $528 lift motor (highway robbery for a $100 motor) PLUS $125 an hour labor (they couldn't tell me how many hours it'd take). Me it would taken an hour - them - nothing has EVER been under 2 hrs for me or the wife.(contracted by VA is cheaper but not by much) - I figure they overcharge them too (US since its taxpayer dollars). But nobody is watching the purse strings - no oversight committee over the oversight committee o_O. But its great being on the internet talking to my buddies (you guys!) ;)
