Rob and I finally hooked up today and did some smallmouth fishing. Rob's mom also fished with us and outfished both of us! I brought Buzz's boat from VT to NY via the ferry. We fished out of Buzz's boat and then left it in NY in Rob's hands.

The lake was rocking and rolling today. Rob was trying out Buzz's new underwater camera. It is pretty awesome. At 35', you can look right into a fish's eye!! It was cool to watch a fish come up to the camera and check it out.

I ended up with 4 smallies, Rob had 3 and his mom caught 4 or 5 and she also had the nicest fish of the day - 4lber. Rob would have caught more if he wasn't playing with the camera - at least that's what he'll tell you!! I attached a pic of some fish that Rob and I caught. I used an illusionary tactic to make my fish look bigger - my arms are longer!!

Oh yea, we fished Champlain!

Nice job guys!! Not only can Mrs. L catch fish but she's one heck of a photographer too. Did you hook up with doubles or store them in the livewll for pic's later?

I think on my way home from Auburn Hills next weekend I'll swing by Champlain.

Nice going, Bob other then the eye, where you able to see anything else with the camera, like structure? baitfish, fish, etc?. Also Marke what in's Auburn Hills, a new 911CDX??? Anyway drive careful Marke as Rob and I still need to come over to Winni and challenge you and Curtis on your lake with the winner buying the cold ones... Maybe Bob could bring his daughter Jennifer and beat all of us... She catches more fish then Bob does...

Hey Buzz,

Can I borrow your boat next weekend on St. Clair? The family and I are going to be on vacation next week but didn't have anything planned. After chatting with Ken on a few e-mails we decided to go to Michigan. We've never been to that part of the country so we figured "Why not?" We'll go through Canada and see Niagra falls, check out the great lakes and of course spend some $$$$ at BPS and visit Ken.

If we have time on the way home maybe we'll take the scenic route through P'burgh and visit the MaLoy's....LOL Then ferry over to Milton to meet the G.'s. Where you live Buzz? We'll visit you too.

I think it'll be a fun road trip.

Oh, and you,Rob and Bob are more than welcome to come to Winni. Beating Curtis and shouldn't be too hard as we are really STRUGGLING to get fish in the boat. We went out Thurs and today and haven't caught hardly anything. The weather is getting cooler and water temp has dropped almost 10 degrees in 3 days. We have no idea how that is affecting the fish. We have fished everything from top water to 20 feet and can't find "consistent" fish.

Marke,

You need to come back to Champlain for lesson number two from Rob. We didn't catch any fish on grubs today. I thought it was THE bait to use - I was wrong and Rob showed me some new tricks. Actually he didn't show me, he handed me a jerkbait and said "Here ya go". I had to pretend I was tying my knot and watch him do his thing!!

I'm bumming that you are going to St.Clair without us! What's up with the family thing anyway? That will be one cool vacation. My wife/kids go back to school next week and free until next June! Post some pics of your awesome smallies from St. Clair. Don't come home with some lame excuse about the fish being "off". Tke lake was rocking today like the day you came up and fished with me. Rob made sure that I got an extra shower today!

Buzz, You could see schools of bass, the grass, rocks and everything else down under. You could even see us when the camera was on deck! That was really scary!! The clarity is excellent.

Anyways, thanks to Rob and Mrs. L. for a fun day on the lake.

Bob,

Unfortuneatley I don't know if I'll get on St. Clair. There may not be enough time. Ken said we could definately fish the Lake that he lives on though. It's more of road trip than an actual fishing trip. We get these urges once in a while to do something crazy. One time, we drove to Virginia to visit my Sister. We left Saturday at noon, drove all night, got to my sisters on Suday morning, had dinner around 2pm and drove home. We got home around 7am Monday and slept until Tuesday....LOL That was 8 years ago, so we're due )

If I can do Champlain in a day, I should be able to St. Clair in a weekend, right?

Hey Marke, hook up the boat and have a blast... I fiqure it's the least I can do is let you use the boat as it will be the boat that kicks yours and Curtis Arss..LOL... I do have to explain to Rob and Bob that you are suppose to have a smile on your face when you have your picture taken.. At least it looks like Rob is trying to smile somewhat but with Bob holding the bigger fish maybe he had other thoughts going though his head..LOL.. Anyway the boat offer is always good and have a safe and enjoyable trip and have your family stay up wind of Neeley, and they should be fine..LOL...It's like the sign at the zoo says, don't find the monkeys, well we did to adopt one that says " Don't feed Neeley Slim Jims".. Take care and looking forward for to the time Rob and I and maybe Bob if he can break free, can get down to Winni and have the oppertunity to fish with you and Curtis...Take care.. Buzz

Marke,

I'm not jealous if you are not fishing St. Clair. You had me worked up for a minute! I hope you have a safe trip. You are always welcome to come and fish Champlain. I might have to start working Monday thru Friday like regular folk. I'm not real happy about it. I should find out this week. I like hunting/fishing on Thursdays/Fridays when everybody else is at work.

Rob took me to one of his "spots" yesterday. Rob made me wear a blindfold on the trip from the marina!! We were catching fish in 30' with a jerkbait! His spot is awesome and the camera verified it. We saw lots more fish on the screen than we caught. I'm going to look for similar structure on my side of the lake. When the conditions are right, you can camp out on a spot like that for hours.

It was a great time. Sorry Bob, sometimes I just take for granted that people know how to fish! LOL Seriously though, sorry I didn't realize and take the time to show you properly, but you caught on pretty quick. Plus, as I told you, on THAT spot, with THAT bait, it's pretty much "jerkbaiting for dumbies" or "jerkbaits 101". You really can't go wrong, hey, even Buzz caught fish there! LOL Gotcha Buzz. Yeah, the wind didn't play our way until later in the day or I'm sure at least my mom would have caught more fish! And the camera is AWESOME! Sorry all, I forgot the camcorder, but will work on it in the future. We saw dozens and dozens of HUGE smallies stacked up in 40-45 feet of water, clear as day! They would come over to check it out, and I'd bump right into them with the camera. You can see EVERYTHING. And the zebra mussles are out of control even down to 60 feet. Yesterday Cody and I went over and checked out the causeway at the Alburg passage. I have NEVER seen so many sunfish in my life. There were literally thousands upon thousands of them. I kept running into them with the camera. Plus the occasional crappie, tons of perch, lots of mooneye and carp and suckers. Only saw one walleye and it was brief. But now I know whats down there and why we all keep hanging up in it. I intend to really scopt some things this weekend if Buzz lets me! I will try to get it on camera! Funny thing about my "spot". We went back yesterday.....NO fish, not even on camera. Saw only 3-4 smallies along the whole ledge, go figure! Don't know where they went, but I promise to figure it out!
