As I did this spring with Champlain, I would like to extend an open invitation to the members of this board to hunt NY's upland birds. I stay pretty busy until about Thanksgiving, but in all honesty, the best bird hunting happens after that, when the foliage is down, the weather gets colder, and the birds begin to covey or flock up. I run a great German short haired pointer, and have access to over 1,000 private acres. Just bring your gun and lots of ammo. No charge, just call me in advance to be sure I have some free time. It's always my honor to have people from the board up, and my couch is open. If you prefer, I can arrange accomodations as well. Hopefully better than the Stonehelm this time. We have grouse, woodcock, and phesant. Though the woodcock are better, earlier in the season. I know many of you hunt and so thought you might be interested. My only request is that you keep me in mind when I travel to spots near your home to hunt and fish. With the fastly approaching season, happy hunting all, and stay safe!

Very nice offer. Always have wanted to bird hunt, but am not in the 'hunting' mode these days. Maybe some time in the future.

That is a great offer and much appreciated!! Wish my bro still lived in NY,..we'd be there in a minute!! ahhah

(you should see him shoot,.....man he's awesome!) I was with him one time when we flushed a whole flock of pheasants....birds blowin up all around us...he emptied his 20ga, Browning (5 shot semi-auto) and we picked up 5 birds!

I didn't have a gun,....i was the dog!!..ahahha...i just walked and trampled brush.....never have seen anything like that since then! 5 shots,...5 birds...unreal!

That's a great invitation Rob and I would sure like to take you up on it. But it's probably too far for me to go from Arkansas. The invitation is much appreciated anyway.

We have snow geese here Mac, by the droves! We're in the middle of the Atlantic flyway. We get literally millions of birds each fall. One time, an old friend and I stalked one flock (approx 8-10,000 birds) that were at the end of a field next to the woods. We stepped out, each took 3 shots, from the hip since you couldn't really single out any birds, and dropped 18 birds! I had a subaru back then. You should have seen the trunk....FULL!!!! Man were we tired after luggin all those birds back! It's even worse now and the limit is about 15 per person per day! I don't guide for them, but they can be fun. Anyone wants to try that, I'm open to it! Buzz and I are planning on bagging the 12 pointer I didn't get last year. He wouldn't peek out, so I tagged the 9 pointer that did.

Rob,

That's why he's a 12 pointer and not a 9.

You, and anybody else for that matter, are more than welcome in Virginia. All I need is a little advance notice. Uncle Sam puts me on the road now and then. I can't afford to gear up for hunting AND fishing (at least that's what the wife says). I had to make a choice and I can fish a lot longer than I can hunt.

The 12 pointer was standing directly behind me when I shot the 9. I had interrupted what was about to be the 12 giving the 9 a serious A$$ whoopin. I called them back in. The 9 came out front, the 12, right behind me. I couldn't see which was which, and so shot the first one I saw, the 9. Plus I couldn't turn around to see the 12, though I know it was him, he was the only other dominant buck in the area that would have challenged the 9. Nobody shot him (cause I would have heard) and he wasn't hit by a car (would have heard that too) and it was a mild winter, so I'm sure he's still there and probably even bigger this year. My muzzleloader misfired on a 14 pt a few years back and I need to redeem myself for the local community! Being the "slayer" that I am, given my rep and all. For those that remember the hassle I went through after shooting the 9 last year! I did find out who the rumor starter was too! He steers clear of me now.

Man, I would love to come up and do a little huntin, but my year is all booked up for trips now.

As a side note, anybody is welcome to come down and fish a bit on the Stick Marsh while you can't fish those frozen lakes up there....................sa

Steve, I might be down fishing with Mickey on Lanier just after Christmas. How much further south are you from there? He's on the south end of Lanier.

Unfortunately it's about 6 hours. But if you don't mind driving, let me know..................sa

How about you Kenny boy? Black flies are all gone that time of the year!

Find me a cheap charter and I just might...hate to make that drive again!!!

Try hotwire or priceline for a round trip on US airways. Should be able to get tickets for about $200 right now from detroit to burlington VT. I could pick you up. Come in on a Friday night, and leave Sunday night! Got the couch, good grub, cold beer, lots of birds, no pressure, you think about it! LOL But alas, the fall turnover happens on the lake then too, so I can't temp you with massive fall smallies. They are wicked fickled that time of the year!

I'd love to come up and go bird hunting. I'll get with you this fall. I will have a friend who really enjoys bird hunting, besides that he's a licensed gun dealer. Might be able to give you a good deal. I'll keep in touch and look for a time when your free after Thanksgiving. Jim Moore

Rob, Thanks for the offer. I'd love to come up. However, Deer season in PA opens up the Monday after Thanksgiving. So, in return, if you want to come to PA and hunt deer, we probably have room at camp. Camp is only 7 miles from the NY border, south of Olean.

Rob - Whose "Mickey" your fishing with an Lanier, thats in my backyard?

***Sniff, Sniff***

I feel so left out, Rob didn't even THINK of me.

**Sniff, Sniff**

I also hunt the first week of deer season in PA with my father in Montour County. It used to be buck season, but is now buck/doe season with 900,000+ anterless tags to be sold statewide and a 3 or 4 point restriction for bucks!! I live for the Monday after Thanksgiving!!

I didn't forget you Trep, just want to be sure Mickey wouldn't mind putting an extra 75lbs in the boat! LOL It's Mickey Bruce from the FLW. He's a pro from GA, and EVERY article I've EVER read on either Lanier or spots says he is the world's authority on BOTH! If I don't learn a little about spots with him, then I was asleep! He has won 3 of the last 4 big tourneys on Lanier, all but one with spots. He had one bag with almost a 4 lb average of spots. Never caught them myself, but I hear that's rare. He said I should be fine as they are a lot like summer smallies. Adapt a few patterns I have for finnesse and away we go! I'll e-mail you when the time gets closer. It's all up in the air now with this work thing going on.

Ooops sorry, Jim, give me a shout for sure. We'll hook up in fall.

For 200 bux, I just might take you up on that....we'll get together on it later.

Rob - EVERYONE has heard of Mickey Bruce, Here's my thought - You fish with him FIRST, then we go out the next day and try what you learned! 'cause i've been fishing Lanier for 2 years, granted not every weekend, but it's a TOUGH lake for me!

Look foward to meeting ya, if you make it down. You just might want to call off the Mac Nekid dance for winter if you want decent weather to fish yourself!!!

I will have Mac begin upon my departure from the GA state line! Yeah, Mickey is great. Pat Fisher also live down there and I hope to hook up with him at least one day. I am rooting for him in the FLW championship!
