I HOPE everyone in the path of this bitch is preparing...batteries..water....candles..etc.....BUT most of ALL I hope the fatalities are few.....and the damage,,?????we can always re build....SAFETY TO ALL
Even though I am a ways inland (Carlos is going to be a lot closer) I plan to batten down the hatches tonight and get ready. Brought a generator back with me from Florida and cant get the dang thing running!! Living in the forest (under 125ft trees)like I do, is always a concern. We just had a "branch" in one of the last storms rip off a lot of guttering. Got that fixed just in time for this new storm...
As a long time resident of Louisiana, I know hurricanes. I've been thru Betsy in 1965 and Camille in 1969. Also Andrew, Katrina, Rita and Gustav. Just be prepared and don't take any chances. Stay safe.
As a guy that grew up in Mobile, in comparison that bad girl just does not look so bad. There will be some damage, trees down, but just does not look to be catastrophic. All be smart and be safe, and stay clear of trees that can come down. And heads up for the tornadoes, those spin out of these and are a major threat that kills a lot of people.
Can you say OVERTIME???? I'll probably get activated to go to NYC. After 9/11 NY CO's were sent down to guard watersheds and other potential targets and were working 17 hr shifts, 5-6 days a week. Crazy overtime. Especially CERT members. Should prove to be interesting. We'll see if Mikey handles this better than he did the snow storm that shut the city down.
What really burns me is that we got NO FEMA money after our floods this spring but I bet NYC gets it just like the gulf did after Katrina and the midwest did after the tornadoes.
Guess we're not "progressive" enough to warrant getting any funds up here. That's ok, we DON'T expect it, we take care of ourselves and our own!
