O.K. guys, tell me am I the only crazy one or what???? How can you pass Reggie Bush???? I am sooooooooooooo happy the Saints should get him.

I dunno about Bush. Texas, a college defense, in the biggest game of his life pretty much shut him down. They almost made him a non factor in the championship game. What do you think a PRO defense is going to do. It seems like a high price for a guy that is going to be basically a return specialist and catch a few passes out of the back field. The Texans need to get some line help on that left side because if they don't they might as well draft a quarterback because David Carr WILL NOT SURVIVE another season taking the beatings he has. They have a very good qauterback and the running back position is solid. Davis has been getting 100 yards seasons behind that sad line. They need help on that line like no one else. Imagine what Carr and Davis would have done behind a line like the Chiefs have. Bush is the last thing they need. In my humble opinion that is. Mario Williams was the wrong pick to make also but that is a done deal now. D'Brickashaw Ferguson should have been the pick for Houston. I know Mario is a rare DE but they can't win with a busted up QB. IMHO

They need to trade down if they dont want Bush and at least another 2 or 3 round pick.

time will tell but i would have never picked him first. i would have had to trade it and picked him later.

Championships are won and built on DEFENSE. They made the right choice.

Name ANY championship team in pro football where a Dynamite Running Back/Can't Miss/Heisman winner has actually been to the super bowl or won?

It was a very good move on their part.

Tex

Tex, I agree about the defense part. However, when you sign someone because of money, and getting them signed before draft day, remember you get what you pay for. It WAS NOT a factor of need, it was the money. With the offense the Texans have, they might win the Super Bowl say 2-0 a defensive safety.

Another thing Tex, check back and tell me how many teams won the Super Bowl, with a average back, or good back.

Bubby

you still have to score to win. 0-0 is not a win. the texans need so much help they would have been trading the pick. one player does not make a winner when you are as bad as they are.

I certainly don't understand what the Texans did except it's Charlie Casserly. That pick of theirs better turn out to be another Reggie White or heads are going to roll, and should.

Bubby,

Big difference between a good back and an average back. Even given that, there are many teams that have won with a 'good' back. Now, name me ONE team that has one the super bowl, with a #1 Pick that was a running back.

Remember, Bush hasn't played a DOWN in the NFL. He may be great, and he may simply be another back. Time will tell. Or have you forgotten about players like Ricky Williams, to name just one.

Tex

Past number 1 pick overall for running backs from 1960 to present.

1960 - Billy Cannon, Los Angeles, RB, LSU

1961-Tommy Mason, Minnesota, RB, Tulane

1962 - Ernie Davis, Washington, RB, Syracuse

1965-Tucker Frederickson, N.Y. Giants, RB, Auburn

1966-Jim Grabowski, Miami (AFL), RB, Illinois

1969-O.J. Simpson, Buffalo (AFL), RB, Southern California

1977-Ricky Bell, Tampa Bay, RB, Southern California

1978-Earl Campbell, Houston, RB, Texas

1980-Billy Sims, Detroit, RB, Oklahoma

1981-George Rogers, New Orleans, RB, South Carolina

1986-Bo Jackson, Tampa Bay, RB, Auburn

1995-Ki-Jana Carter, Cincinnati, RB, Penn State

Tex, my friend, not any of today's pick have played one down in the NFL. Yes, it all is a crap shoot, however he is not just a running back. He returns punts, a great receiver, and I am not sure what you mean by first round picks as running backs winning Super bowls. If you mean the first pick of the draft o.k.. You should pick the best player on the board at the time. Are you trying to say that is why Houston didn't pick him???? I phoned friends in Houston, and have looked at web sites, and it appears you and a few other people believe they made the right choice. Houston fans are in shock .Could it work out in their favor, sure, it is also possible the 54th pick in the draft becomes the best player taken. Like most football people said, Houston did it because of money, nothing more. The Saints normally do that. One last thing, I do not know what you mean about Rickey Williams, he was a great back, most yardage in the league one year, no one knew he was a drug head, are you sayind this cannot happen to Mario??? Bubby

I'm simply saying that using the #1 pick in the NFL draft on a Running Back, generally does not get you what you want.

A trip to the Super Bowl, and a Championship. Look at the list that Buzz put up.

You could also add to that list with RB's that were picked in the Top 10 of the draft.

And if you really think that the Saints are going to pay Bush the kind of money he wants, you are probably NOT going to be using him as they did in college. In college, they only played 12 a year, and Bush played behind tremendous linemen at USC, and a great passing attack.

I don't see that at Houston, nor at New Orleans.

He is a highly talented football player. But without the supporting cast . . . . .

And neither Houston nor New Orleans has it. Kubiak has been around football (player and coach) for a very long time. He knows that it is going to take to get the Texans competitive.

Ricky was supposed to be the next coming of Earl Campbell when he was drafted - by the Saints I believe???? Not even close. Out of the league, and still owes Miami millions of dollars - which he probably does not have anymore.

And where exactly was Bush when USC played Texas in the Rose Bowl this year.

Answer: AWOL

I can think of two teams in recent history, New England won two superbowls with Antowain Smith as thier lead runner, Smith is certanly not a great back but is serviceable. Also the Packers in 86 won with Edgar Bennet as thier featured runner, another average guy. The thing these two teams had in common, a great Quaterback and great defense.

Personally i think the Texans made the right choice. They have zero pass rush and they made some moves that should help fix that. Davis has done a pretty good job for the Texans runing behind a pretty bad line, if they fix that he should get even better.
