2002 Nitro 929 with dual axle trailer and electric surge disc brakes. Last year no problem everything worked fine, this year, take the boat out for the first time, in the Northeast, and all seemed to work fine until I went to back up hill. Brakes locked up. I have cleaned the connector several times both side, female and male and still doesn't seem to help. Tester shows electric going in and out... Its pretty frustrating... I just keep thinking I'm missing something really simple.

the solenoid needs power to keep the fluid from going to the calipers when in reverse.possibly the solenoid is gone, or no power to it in reverse.

Bob, i had the same problem on my trailer for my 929. The solinoid inside your brake actuator is powered by your back-up lights in your tow vehicle. You can get to the wire under your actuator and get a test light to see if your getting power when your truck is in reverse.( mine was the blue wire). Most of the time tho, it is ussually a bad ground. These solenoids rarely go bad, and getting to them requires tearing down the whole acuator and bleeding your brakes. Start with all the electrical tests you can think of before resorting to the solenoid. I did end up replacing the switch. It was about $45 but after taking the old one out i found there was and adjustment screw on it and fixed the old one. Now i have a spare.

Also... With your vehicle ignition in the ON position and in reverse gear, if you hook up your trailer and plug and unplug your trailer lights, you should hear a clicking sound coming from the solenoid switch inside the actuator. That would tell you if your getting power and ground.

hope this helps..

Mat nailed it, the brankes on these trailer are surge with electric anti reverse not electric brakes. I had the same problem with my 882 trailer and it ended up bweing corrosion on the socket that plugs into the truck. it ewas a pretty easy fix. Like Mat said check your ground on the truck and trailer and also make sure you are getting power so the soloniod. On the trailer under the coupler there is a ground wiire(white) attached to the frame. you may want to unscrew it and make sire it is getting good contact with bare metal on the frame. That is the spot whwre it grounds everything on the trailer and if its not good and passing enough current that things may not work right.

Thanks, this has been frustrating.... I did find that white ground you spoke of and it wasn't conected, so put that back on, but still the same problem.. . The only place I haven't checked for current is back by the actuator. I'll have to check that again... Thanks for all the help so far I'll keep you posted on the fix.

Guys

There is one blue at the connection to the truck, but there are three blue where the tounge break is... when I put the truck in reverse, ignition on, I don't hear the celinod clicking, so I know this must be the problem.... but also at the tounge break two of the blue have current, one doesn't the one that doesn't I can't find going anywhere. Now back at the connection to the truck where there is only one blue there is current on both sides... male and female. I guess this raises another question, why would there be current there in the other two wires if all I have is the truck in Reverse, no lights on, except for backup?? Man I can't believe this boat is only a year and a half old and I have this problem already...

Bob, make sure you are doing this while the truck and trailer are hooked up also... Your ball and reciever help with ground when they are connected.... Also, did you get any paperwork when you bought the boat as to what kind of Hydraulic brake Acuator you have? I did with mine and it has instructions in there that explains how to take it all apart if you should have to... Let me know, i can dig up the paperwork on mine if you need me to//
