Dan any news on how your boat runs after the breakin, I may order a new one (06) with the new updates on the 929 and a 225PRO XS. I need to know if you can run loaded over 70GPS and is the boat working for you, please get back since my STATE TEAM boat will be a NITRO if I get the info I hope to see.

I'm hoping to run that motor on my new team boat too. I can only get (as expected) about 68-69 GPS out of my 225 Opti. If it'll give us even a touch more, it'll be worth it.

I'm eager to find out about the hole shot more so than the top speed. Is the Pro XS a better motor on top with a weaker bottom end or is it better all the way around?

Enquiring minds want to know!!!

DAN is the only one I know who is running the 225 PRO XS and yes its a strong motor (dynos in around 247 hp) several friends have went to it and they have either changed motors or new boat/motor set ups and all have said faster from holeshot to WOT. The Pro XS is super strong.

the new lighter weight consoles and a few other up grades should be faster on topend but DAN with his 05 at first said he was fully loaded (36volt TM) with 2 people 3/4 tank fuel was around 72 mph (GPS) ,so I hope this 06 hull will be 73-74 with 24 volt setup. I'll run a Hydraulic plate on mine as well. Some custom prop work and this big ol monster will fly.

I'm not the DAN you were needing info from, but I have driven the XS and the standard Opti's in 225 HP (on 929's) and have found only a slight gain in the XS. (About a mile and a half to two mile an hour better with the XS. 72-ish MPH/GPS, tourney rigged) The '06 lighter hulls may add a half to 1 MPH to that, I'm not sure yet. As far as the 247 HP at the prop, myself and a few Merc tech's I've asked would like to see it. Since the fed. CARB acts started in 1996, what it says on the cowl is what it must put out at the prop (dyno) or there is a major fine for the mfr. To break it open and tweak it from factory spec's has been also made a fed. violation starting in '98. (Not that some folks don't. LOL! However, I can't think of a mfr. that wants to stay in business that will break any of the new rules in place.) The big gain on the XS over the standard Opti is an add'l 250-300 RPM's on top, and better internal cylinder construction. I've added a link that you might want to check out and compare to the Opti 225 spec sheet. (You'll find it on the link's page, left column under 225.) I'm not trying to bust any bubbles, just wanting to avoid any dissatisfaction from desires that are unreached. Good luck with the new ride(s)!!

Dan thanks for the reply (I do know that there is a FED regulation on Motors) however all are under a 10% window so it could be +/- 10% of rated (cowling) HP . On my 225 OPTIMAX I have now it has dyno'd up to 236 HP, done at and by FACTORY MERC Tech. I also saw that the 225 PRO XS has the upper limit (250HP ---225 + 10%) HP almost to FED max. I hope that the new hull will be a little better in speed. I am not looking for a rocket but just don't want to go backwards in speed as I have now with PROCRAFT.

The 250XS Merc puts out 275ish HP so it still may be the next motor.

problem is the 225 has less insurance money where the 250 is more to insure and the 250 has less factory warranty plus the 93 octane you have to run.

WOW "all are under a 10% window " So my 40 Merc COULD be realy a 44 hp!! WOW i'm flying!!!!

2500 - I carry an umbrella policy so I can't be much help on the insurance issue as I just don't know. If it were me and it didn't make a difference in your ins., I'd stick with a 250XB. (If you can get your hands on one.) The power to weight ratio is probably the best built by Merc and the performance is almost bullet proof. However, the price of fuel virtually makes it cost prohibitive. (LOL!)

I checked a while back in a similar discussion with Merc Hi-Perf veteran Doug Cody, the Hi-Perf Tech Rep out of Suwanee,GA, who told me the Merc assembly line performance tolerance is about 1-3% over the cowling rating at the prop. (an aside - His nephew Tony has wrenched for the Merc support trailer for several years now. If you see him, say "Hey!" from Big Dan.) If you can find one in the 10% over rating, I'd definitely hold onto it. That's an awesome stock advantage, allowing a bump up in a wheel size or two. Good luck with the new toy!!

Trep - Now you can go shopping for a ski pylon and a high five wheel for your rig!!
