Hey bob and everyone else, how ya'll doing? I have a 2000-750 dc. I noticed that a piece of my rub rail was loose. I dont have a clue about rub rails. But under that spot there looks like a screw thats loose. If i went around and tightened all the screws what kind of silicone or whatever do i use. The silicone thats on there now is peeling off everywhere. Also its just on the bottom part of the rail, should it be top and bottom? Thank you for everything

I think I went overboard when my Z6 had the same issue, but I removed my rub rail and pulled each screw out and put a dab of silicone on it and screwed it back in. I think it was 3M seal for life or something like that, my dealer gave it to me and said it would work great. As for the track the rub rail sits in I believe just the bottom has silicone on it.

The rubrail must be removed, cleaned, and re-bed with a good sealant. Use a marine silicone sealer. Some good brands are Boat-Life life caulk, or life seal. Either is easily removed for future servicing. Seal all screw holes and the shoe-box deck-to-hull joint before re-installing the rubrail. After install, run a neat bead around the entire underside from bow to stern. If you don't do it right, the boat may leak. ;)

And just as an add on, no matter what you put on the screws short of JB Weld, they will back out again. 3 times a year was the routine for me to pull short sections of my rail and snug up the screws. I would also do it after a couple of rough water days just to make sure. Mini upsized his screws, doubled the number, sealed them in on his Ranger and he will have to tell how often he has to rework them if at all.

Back when i had my 882 i used life seal just like Bob mentioned, at that time he also mentioned putting 3m 5200 in the screw holes and that works fantastic at keeping them in.

I did the same 5200 treatment to my Z7 when i first got it and in 3 years i have not had to tighten a screw yet.

now and again I still have to screw some back in but I havent broken one in 5 years :)

I forgot completely about that.....even if you can get them locked in thread wise, they will on occasion break in half. Then you do have to back them out and replace. I would imagine that is a rough water thing only.
