My old deep cycle battery is getting pretty wooped,It's now time to buy a new one. Here is the question.

Would I be better off with two smaller deep cycles,or one big one?

I can either fit two 140 reserve capicity,or one 205 capicity battery.

I would think the two because of the reserve capicity.

Any body have any thoughts on this?

I thought of just buying a bigger boat, but wifey shot that down REAL quick.LOL

The only problem I see would be the extra weight, connections and the fact that if 1 of the 2 went bad it would drain them both and may make it hard to track the problem.

The extra weight would actually help,my boat runs best with a full tank of gas,and full livewell. It must help lever the front end up and adds about two mph.The batteries would sit side by side,so the wireing would be easy.

What I'm really getting at is which setup would run my 55# m.k. longer at higher settings while fighting wind and current. While running it on 4 or 5,it will drain the battery in 4 or 5 hours.

i agree w/br549 as (2) group 27's would work great. i had a 48lb thrust motorguide and ran off a single 12v group 27 with a 160min reserve and could run it all day long. if you have room, 2 of them would be great, especially for trips when you can't find the juice to recharge them.

running 2 group 27 w/160 reserve 24v with my trollin motor now (65lb thrust mk) and it runs all day just fine.

And, if one does go bad, you'll still be able to deliver a full 12v to your trolling motor for full thrust when you need it - even though it may be for a shorter duration.

I agree with the two battery set-up. Also, as stated my boat runs better with the extra weight of a second battery.

Thanks guys.

I figured the two smaller batteries would be better than one big one.The price is $50 dollars each for the 140's,and $75 for the 205.So the dual batteries wouldn't be all that much more.
