Yesterday I ran into Curt Lytle, a top pro from VA. If any of you read Bassmaster you may remember an issue from last year where they interviewed Curt about his custom flippin sticks he makes himself. Soon as I mentioned it he said, "come here, I'll show you one" He reaches into the recesses of his 518's locker and pulls out what appeared to be a behemoth of a 7'6" G Loomis flippin stick with a shimano curado on it. Then he hands it to me. OUNCES I tell ya, it only weighed OUNCES! It was perfectly balanced, super light weight and as sensitive and strong as they come. He couldn't sell me any because of negotiations with a former sponsor that he was developing prototypes for (that he was dropping) or something to that effect. Anyhow, he said I could e-mail him when he gets home and he will walk me through building one step by step. Any other flippin freaks here interested? To reduce weight he only puts 10 guides instead of 12 on for the 7'6", 12 is std! Also, he only puts the absolute min cork on the handle, but custom shaves each ring to make a perfect grip for his hand. And then he does not coat the rod with the typical gloss. It results in a more fragile rod more likely to break, but very effective for flipping and pitching al day. No fatigue and it has the power to horse the biggest beasts from ANY say tires! I will try to build one this winter and put it in the grab bag. Anyone know where I can get may hands on just the G loomis blank and a rod seat? I know where to get cork and eyelets.

Well that's not going to work.

It's under http:www.cabelas.com

The whole link doesn't fit in the link text box.

It's too long but you can cut & paste from here:

sounds kool - just bought falcon lowrider 7'6" flippin stick that is telescopic from okiebug for $70. I like it. I like it. I like it. I'd think about that gloss coat as I think graphite is somewhat brittle if not protected. Are you thinkin a one piece rod or telescopic? I guess I'm interested and would like to see in the grab bag. If you ever make it to oklahoma, let me know as the lake I fish is full of timber and flippin is one of the best ways to fish it - especially in the spring.

I was fishing with Curt a few years ago on the Potomac (his first Top 150 event) when he broke one of those flippin' sticks. All I can tell you is don't run your hand up the blank when you set the hook! Use the butt of the rod. It cut his hand up pretty good.

Juat buy an All Star and you wont have to build it. Looka t the new T-Series Flippin Stick designed by Tommy Biffle.

Mini

Mini, I have an All Star flippin rod and like it, but want a 7'6" that a short guy like me can use all day and not get worn out. All Stars are a little heavy.
