Any recommendations for placement for SI/DI transducer? I bought a Hummingbird Helix 12 MSI+/MDI+G4N to replace the stock Hook 2 that came installed. They say that the in-hull transducer is not recommended.

Mine is mounted here on my 2024 Z17.......

Really appreciate the reply and the photo. That's where I wanted to place mine. I was afraid it would interfere with the tie down. Did you do the install yourself?

Yes Tie down just clears. I had the guys at BPS install it. I figured they do nitros all the time, so they know best, and they always do great work for me. My local BPS has a great bunch of guys in the service department.

Exactly the correct placement for the Transducer. Had the little Hook replaced by dealer upon arrival from the factory.
They put on our Garmin 93SV & Transducer (Like a 7" black log). Looks crazy sticking out there. Never an issue. The Tie-down Strap/hook lies across the coax just fine without any pinching at all just as seen in Rippn's photo. Happy New Year....

Probably only because they don't trust laymen to do the installation in-hull. It's always the best choice to install in the hull, it's just tricky to get it right.

He's referring to the through-hull transducer that comes stock on nitros. These are simply epoxied to the bottom of the hull in the bilge area. Not hard to install at all. Probably not recommended because he wouldn't be able to get side scan which most people want with a new graph like a helix.

Oh, ok, I'm not aware of these advanced electronics.

Ya the through hull transducer only has 2d sonar and downscan.....with a graph like a helix you would probably want a little more function. A lot of guys will keep the through hull so they can scan on plane though, as the transom mount transducers can be a real pain to dial in for this....everyone has different needs.

The in the hull transducer is primary for depth while on plane up to around 40 MPH. There is a y cable to read the two transducers at the same time.
