Screw depth

I'm going to mount my battery charger beside my cranking battery and install another battery and tray beside my trolling battery....Whats the material thickness I have to play with To pre drill for a screw to fasten the tray and charger down with..

I have some 1 inch stainless screws will they be ok? Boat 2005 640 Nitro.
