I wasn't sure exactly how to clean and oil a bait caster so I found this article with pictures online today, and it really helped. I've already cleaned 3 of my reels that were just sitting around and they feel alot better. I thought I would post this in case someone else could use it.

Thanks Teri, I do this about once a year and I have had no trouble with any of my reels

( Knock on wood ), one thing really stands out with your article is they stress use only

a drop of oil here and there and that's important as you can put too much oil on the reel and it could haunt you while on the water....

Thanks Teri - I don't clean mine and need to, i lost one (broken) earlier this summer where if I had kept it clean/oiled i'd most likely have not had to replace it.

"If you take care of your tools, your tools will take care of you." I'll bet I serviced, repaired, and replaced reels in the thousands behind the reel counter at BPS for over a decade and found lack of maintenance the number one reason for failure. It's a very good habit to incorporate into your routine, and kinda fun, too! Great job Teri!! ;)

Its an annual task for me as well. I setup a little collapsable table and spend a day watching football and cleaning/relubing all of my reels. I have some that i use every trip that are well over 10 years plus old and no issues. They still work good as new.

Last year i got a great kit from BPS made by Ardent that comes with come degreaser(works really well btw) and a tub with a basket to soak the parts in. It is really a slick kit and it made the job easier for sure. Check the link below and you will see what it is.

Thanks Teri, I already have all of that saved as pdf files! The guy who had that business goes by Reeldoc on Bass Boat Central. He is retired now. One heck of a nice guy.

Good stuff Teri and by the way congrats on the new boat

Started doing this once a year in the wintertime, as I prepared for my upcoming club/federation tourneys. Although I'm no longer active in a club, I still do it. Looking forward to having all my fishing stuff back in the new house (some there, some still pending moving) within the next 6 weeks or so.
