i just recieved this e-mail from a friend, not sure how everyone will take it,so read it carefully, please!and dont kill the messinger.i didnt respond to it of go to it yet to see how many have signed it,if any.if you have an opinion, please let us know about it here.

I think you all know me well enough to know that i am far from a biggot or racest. But i to believe in this. I believe we should give credit where credit is due. why change history leave it as it belongs.. Changing that origional pic for the statue would be like a slap in the face to the 3 hero's that actually erected the flag that day.. This is my opinion...

New York City is planning to erect a statue depicting

the famous photo of the flag raising at Ground Zero.

They want to change what the photo shows (three white

male firefighters) and instead include an

African-American and a Hispanic.

The website URL below is for a petition to have the

statue depict the flag raising exactly as it actually

occurred...to make it historically accurate, not

politically correct.

If you agree to leave the statue as the picture was

taken, then please go to the website, sign it, and

then pass it on to everyone you know.

New Yorkers like to boast that if you can survive in New York, you can survive anywhere. But if you can survive anywhere, why live in New York?

I've seen that too Magna,.....and I try to avoid all that crap that revolves around being PC vs. historically accurate.....Everybody in the WORLD know's EXACTLY what really happened that day and everybody has seen that actual picture,....it's awsome,.....everybit as good as the Marines on Mt. Suribachi..........I really doubt the PC flag wavers will get very far with their campaign on this one!.....

Who know's though,..we've seen dumber stuff happen!!!

Not always known or discussed but the famous photo was of the SECOND flag raised on Surabachi...some rather intrepid marine carried a small flag and put it up earlier...Commander wanted a bigger flag...

Joe Rosenthal climbed to the top of Mt.Surabachi with the marines. There was also a film cameraman with him.

The Marines raised a flag on the top of the mountain, which both Joe and the film cameraman shot. The problem was that it was a small flag. Watching from the flagship of the invasion, the commander told the Marines he couldn't see the flag. A second flag was dispatched, and was raised.

Both Joe and the movie cameraman then shot the second flag being raised. This shot was the icon. Joe shot them both. History remembers the second.

Greg:

Didn't the commander want the bigger flag raised so that the guys down on the beach could see it and get a morale boost?

Met a guy once who spent a few horrific hours on that beach.

As I understand the story...the Commander, a Naval Officer, could not see the flag...Anybody down on the beach, or anywhere else on the island probably could tell that there was a US Flag up there...

Since this has drifted off..way off... here's a link to the two flags in one photo
