Does anyone have experience with removing old silicon?

I'd like to strip the old stuff out of my splashwell and replace with new...

I can probably scrape most of the old stuff out, but has anyone used any solvents to help remove any residual sticky stuff??? I'd like to leave as much paint in place as possible...

you might try laquer thinner. But this is harsh stuff. Don't know what'll do to your finish. Clear silicone is real tuff junk to get off. I'd test it on something other than my boat first.

Andy, they make a silicone caulk remover. It comes in a tube like a big tube of toothpaste. I've used it on bathtubs and showers, it works very well if you let it sit long enuff. It's definately not as harsh as the laquer thinners. You can find it at any home improvement store usually stocked right alongside the caulks.
