I am going to buy a new deep cycle battery. And probably stay with 12 volt 54 lb. Should I go with a 875 amps or larger?

with a deep cycle get the one with the largest reserve capacity. that is more important for tm battery than CA. get the largest size you can afford

kenny,

if you ever fish in the wind, fish a longer day than you planned, fish tolling motor only lakes or god forbid your outboard breaks down. you would appreciate the merits of a 24 trolling system.

i've personaly taxed mine in several of the following ways, standing on the pedal for 8 hours in 20mph winds at lake champlain,i've not been able to plug my boat in after day one of a two day tourney and i could not tell, i've lost my outboard in the lees mills section of winnipasake and made it five miles south on the trolling motor agianst the wind to the ramp where my trailer was.

i can tell you from experiance a 12 volt would let you down in each of these senarios. (12 volt 54lbs is bear minimum for your boat)

i've sold many z-6's and z-7's and the first and most important upgrade i recomend to customers is go with the most trolling motor you can afford.

you dont want to spend 600 on a unit only to find out you dont like it when you can be garenteed you will like the 800 dollar unit.

you will be spending that 200 diffrance on gas the first fill up and thats a comsumable.;)

again good luck nice rig.

dchance and joe currier both provided very good advice. I'd echo the upgrade to a 24v system if you can afford it.

If you are going to stay with a 12v, 54lb system, I'd buy the largest capacity battery that will fit in your TM battery compartment. If you can fit a 30 series battery in that space, I'd go with a Trojan SCS225. If you can only fit a 27 series battery in that space, I'd install a Trojan SCS220. If you cannot fit a 27 series battery in that space... well... I'd look at figuring out a way to make it fit.

All the best,

Glenn
