I haven't really paid too much attention to the ethanol issues and debates being as though it typically takes me a season to go thru a tank and I still have a 1/2 tanks of the old gas.

Here's my dilemma: I'm heading up to Champlain in a few weeks. I want to embark on my week long trip with a full tank of gas. I don't see myself going thru the half tank that is left between now and the time we leave.

I was thinking that my only option would be to siphon the old gas out and re-fill with fresh ethanol gas. Then do I need to worry about the fuel filter?

What precautions have you taken and have any of your motors shown negative signs from the changeover?

The new Merc's can handle the 10% ethanol stuff... I hope you have some kind of stabalizer in that old fuel... if you do , top off and enjoy the trip!!!!!

No precautions, the DFI runs awesome! Just fill and run to the gills!!!!!!!

they say if you have water in the tank you could have problems. What i did is i ran it own as far as i could on what was in my tank and then filled up with the new stuff. so far no issues from my 150 xr6 at all.

I agree with Kenny. If you stablized the fuel last year, don't sweat it. Just top off and run! If it really worries you (and especially since you go through only a single tank a season), throw in more fuel stabilizer with the fresh tank (double the usual dosage of Stabil will last twice as long according to the label) and add some Chevron Techron or Seafoam. Then have some fun!!

ps: Only a tank a season? Gosh, you must be living right on them basses! Even with my "little" fuel sippin' 40hp, I go through two or three tanks easy in a single year.

Storing gas with ethanol for long periods, and without stabilizer could cause something called phase seperation . SOmething about ethanol seperating from the gas.

Otherwise I don't think anyone has anything to worry about.
