Just an update on taking on water while on plane. Someone and I forgot whom, suggested I take a high pressure hose inside the hull, and shoot it towards the rub rail. Helloooooo, there it is. Like some of you suggested, the rub rail is leaking on both sides of the boat. Thanks guys!!!!!!!!

Pull your rub rail about a foot at a time, tighten the screws (I did it twice a year) and re seal the rail housing. It is a good idea to put something on the screws to make sure they stay put a little longer.

jeff,

oh thats good news!like i said in your first post on the subject it was either that or you had a hole in your new hull.

i'm glad it will be such an easy fix for you!

You will need to do more than just screw the rub rail in. I recommend that you REMOVE thw rub rail. Remove all the screws holding the cap and hull together. Remove all silicone sealant holding the two together and redo it all. Be very liberal in your use of the silicone between the cap and hull making sure that ALL voids are completely filled. Make sure you put the first set of screws (cap to hull) closer than Tracker did. My first Nitro had them 18" apart. I did them 12" apart when I re did it.

Then you need to attach the receiver portion of the rub rail using screws IN BETWEEN the ones that do the cap/hull joint Then finally put in the inner of the rub rail and LET THE SILICONE DRY COMPLETELY!

This should take care of your problem(s)

Mini, not everyone wants to re-build their boat:lol::lol::lol::lol: Especially me and remember, you run St Clair,,,nuff said...:p

If you are gonna do it, do it right THE FIRST TIME!

Then break it and do it again :)

Hey guys, I too have a Z6, 2011 model that is getting water in the lockers at the front, not much but enough to wet stuff on the bottom. From the above posts I'm guessing it's the rub rail so my question is, how do I remove and reinstall this? Also, mine has a silicone seal under the rub rail that is in tact, would simply applying a fine silicone bead to to top edge of the rub rail sort it?

You remove the rubber insert in the rub rail housing. It is 2 pieces. The top cap screws are under the rubber. Do it in small increments and replace the rail as you go or it will be a bear to get back on.

Thanks Toxic,

Good info! I'll check if the screws are tight.

I think I found why mine is wet. The front dash where there electric plugs in and the tilt buttons are, has no seal at all and I had water come over the front on the weekend, also when the wet Motorguide comes up, the water drips off and runs there and when I wash it, same again.

I pulled the front dash (whatever it's called) out and everything was wet under there and 2 screws missed the fibreglass on assembly. I'm thinking of running a big bead of silicone under it to at least stem the flow. Also, there is a drain in the foot pedal recess which looks like it just goes straight into the hull.
