My Parts Guru in Springfield, Teresa, was off today..... So, with some fear and reluctance, I let myself be turned over to Sheila.....

How in the world did BPS find TWO Ladies who know so much about parts and are so pleasant to deal with over the phone?!!? I could not have asked for better service!

Also, just to let you know..... I had called a dealer here in the area to check on the part locally before I called to Springfield. I had thought that, everything being equal, I'd drive half an hour away to get the part and have it tonight rather than wait for it to get here tomorrow by UPS.....

Local Dealer: $49.75 + tax + my time and gas.

BPS: $30.50 + no tax + $9.95 shipping.

Same 12' shifter cable by Mercury.

My only question: They couldn't possibly have a THIRD

Really Great Parts Person down there..... or could they?

Thanks, BPS, Sheila and Teresa!

me!

scott, priced my cables through them,i got the 2 of them locally the next day for $5 cheaper.if i went the bass pro route for next day it would have been $15 more.sometimes its better to get them locally if you goof on the measuring you dont have to send them back and wait for the new set.

oh i went through the broken shift cable.had forward and newtral without taking the motor hood off.

Scott,

Drive over tomorrow night...Well drink something and fix that cable while we reminisce about becoming "Rural Legends"...The Phantom Phishermen... Sounds Kinda Kewl

scott/greg,i hope you are changing both of them?while you got the access/time to so it,why not do both.a little cheap insurance.

hey im getting out this weekend on the neighbors boat for salmon.there close to the shore, within 1 mile.the time is right, time to do it.

oh forgot,he owns a starcraft, but hey it is comfortable with the cuddy on it!hopefully ill get some pictures of the trip with fish.

Jeff,

Good luck...I love Salmon fishing, just don't get the opportunity. I have the last tournament for points for my local BASS club this weekend...Alas, I'm an also ran this year...But, I figure to do well in the Classic..only big money tournament we have...$3,000 first prize...$1,000 big bass. We're fishing Lake Michigan and Green Bay./..my kind of water...big open rough... Hope you make the KY rally

i am trying to.ill know more when the date draws closer.looking at diffrent job, more money, better working conditions, and such.

lake ontario can be a witch at times, but been out in worse with my boat.look at the pic in my library.we were out in that at 5am.that was taken after we came in at 11am.we stayed dry all through it,except the one over the bow which got my foot wet.stupid me had my foot resting on the front deck extension.

oh well, have fun with scott this weekend changing cables.

I got the TM thru-bolted last night. Don't know why I didn't do that in the first place. It was pretty easy to do actually..... Just removed the front cover that holds my trim switches and TM plug and I could semi-easily reach the bolts even with my short arms! Semi 'cuz I still had to deal with cutting myself to ribbons on the fiberglass - shoulda put masking tap over the edges of the openning. Tim's directions to remove the cover were right on the money, except that the two plates on either side of mine that cover the screws were held in place with silicone. Cracked one plate pulling it off but that's no big deal. Thanks, Tim!

Tonight, I'm going to start replacing the hull drain plug with the new style. The new fitting is a bit smaller in diameter, so I'm going to glass the hole in and re-drill.

After putting in the first layer of glass, I'll start on the shifter cable. Hopefully, I can get everything done in time to be back out on Carlyle Sunday.

Jeff, I only got the shifter cable. There was no corrosion or any kind of damage to the old one - just a clean break. Kind of like the metal had been fatigued right from the start.

Good luck to both of you this weekend!

Greg, you don't get to go out until you finish telling the story from last weekend! Enquiring minds want to know!!

me!
