The tie downs that came with my PT175 are starting to show wear. I am also tired of smanshing my fingers in the buckles when securing them. Is there a difference between the rachet tie downs sold by marine dealers and ones that you can buy in hardware/home improvement type stores? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

In my opinion, ratchet tie downs really aren't that good, because you can overtighten them. I prefer the cam buckle kind, you can't really overtighten them, and they usually have a nylon wrap to go around the buckle, so it doesn't open while towing.

Try the BPS "Boatbuckle" PN 15-528-100-00 ($58.99/pr) and you'll never use anything else.

I put the "Boatbuckles" on my PC175 last fall and have not regretted one minute. First they do not scratch anything, and the hooks are coated plastic like the factory ones. Easy to install and even easier to use.

Keep and eye on the prices at BPS I got mine on sale for $39.99.
