Okay, Tim Hanford's post made me check the bunks on the trailer of my PT185 and guess what?.....The damn right side bunk pulled right off and almost crumbled in my hand. My boat is only 4 years old?!!! I got on BPS' website and they had a 4' and 5' set for around $30. The ones on there now are only 3' long. Will the 4 footer work for my trailer? I will post a link. I could make a set, but this time of year, if I have time to work on the boat, I'd rather be fishing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Tim, you probably saved me a serious heart check at the boat ramp this summer.

I would just make my own. all they are is a pressure treated 2x4 and some carpet. Look in the grab bag. John Foster put together a great article on how to make them.

doesnt take long to make them.waterproof glue, outdoor carpet, opr boat carpet, whatever your color choice, mine are blue and grey, just in case i go south of the mason-dixon line!!

seriously, takes about an hr a piece to make them.let the glue dry overnight, then install them the next time you go to the launch.measure how far from the bracket they stick back.lag screw them down with a cordless drill, done deal.

i had a set from bass pro, they rotted out the same as the factory ones.do yourself a big favor, make a set out of good wood, varnish, polyurethane them.seal them good.the 4 ft ones should work for you if time is what youre concerned with.

Glad my post saved someone from a heart attack!

Before you order them through BPS, call them and ask how much the shipping will be. The boards will not be light weight and the extra package length might cost a bit to ship them to you.

If you could squeak in an hour of time, it really isn't bad to do these yourself. I had to redo the bottom 10 foot bunks and the cost was minimal.

Don't forget John Foster has a great "Grab Bag" article on replacing the bunks.

I found the article. I think I can handle it. Thanks guys. I'll have to set aside some time on Sunday to get it done.

that was a good post tim. mines a 98' model and i'm afraid to look! :) guess i'd better check mine out too.

thanks,

jd

I'd read good things about the slick plastic replacements. I didn't find them on BPS's site. They have some that go over the existing bunks, but I think these others were pure replacements. The only caveat was not to unhook your winch strap until IN the water. They're apparantly SUPER-slick.
