I bought a 2012 pro team 175 red I have had it 3 days. The rest of the time it has been at the paint and body shop. Paint was peeling off under the rail on day 3. I have been to get it twice only to refuse the work. Owner of store said they expect paint to be chipping in 6 months but I didn't pay for a 6 months old boat ... Any o.one else had a paint issue?

Sounds as though the "prepwork" was not done properly.

Aluminum is the hardest metal to get paint to stick to it so the prep work is very important. Stay on em'...they should make it right.

Chipping in 6 months is nonsense!! I've had my 07 Tundra five years and NEVER had so much as a bubble. I'm curious though. Bob B does pigment make a difference in how well paint sticks. My boat is white.

fatrap

A small piece of crud can mess up a large area on painting aluminum.

Relax...paint is one those things that CAN be fixed;)

my take on this,if the aluminum was not properly sanded, cleaned and the correct primer/sealer applied, paint will chip off.it should be sanded with 120 grit, then a good primer sealer used, let set 24hrs,then paint with a good paint.

when i did mine in 2001,i sanded the original paint down where there was chips and scratches to bare aluminum, then a good dupont primer sealer used, left it set up 12 hrs,or so,after 24 hrs you have to sand and reprime,so i didnt wait that long,i took a red scuff pad and ran it over the primer sealer, then tack cloth the whole boat, then sprayed dupont centari acrylic enamel with hardener mixed in it.

i have hit the dock hard quite a few times in the past 10 yrs or so,it does have some wounds, but no chipping of paint.

just my take on this,i am not a professional body and paint man, just a dumb wrench turner!:D

True Dat!

Unless it's a large area...it may not be worth taking back.
