I have been looking at a 96 185 sport fish ski. The boat looks to be in pretty good condition. I yanked on the motor and the transom seems solid also I did not notice any soft spots in the floor. Are the stringers laminated with glass in a boat this old? I have never owned a fiberglass boat, is there anything else I should be looking for. I would be interested to hear from someone who has owned this model and let me know how you liked it and how it handles or any issues.

Thanks

I have a '98 185 Nitro Fish and Ski. I am very happy with the boat, the only drawback is that with the stock prop (I have a 22p on a Mariner/Merc 115) its a bit slow out of the hole; however, top end is around 45 mph so if you need to get anywhere fast, it serves most needs. Handling is very easy, fuel mileage is decent, and everything seems to work well. For me its a mostly fishing boat, but we ski it 15-20% of the time and its good for that (aside from the holeshot issue, which doesn't prevent anyone from skiing, even slalom). Enjoy!!!

I have the 98 also, ditto what Dave said. I put a 19p prop on it (gift from board member)and hole shot is much better for skiing and tubing but lost 3-4 top end. No biggie to me. love the boat
