Think I figured out Problem with Transducer

I posted last week that I had a problem with my fishfinder, after the responses I checked out the location and how the trannducer was mounted in the hull. I found that it was epoxied to the hull and had a 1/4" or more between the hull and the transducer I could slide my finger under the transducer all the way around. I believe this was mounted at the dealer for the previous owner. Know should I remove old and try to reuse or place new transducer next to the old one?
