I am looking at a 1996 Tracker Targa 2000 . It has a 175 EFI Mercury outboard which has issues and will need to either be rebuilt or replaced because of low compression test on two of the cylinders. The person who owns it wants $3500 . My question is ..... Is this a decent buy?

Boy, not sure that I'd want to spend $3,500.00 for something that I have to rebuild - especially for a boat that is 15+ years old. What kind of condition is the balance of the boat in?

Have you gotten an estimate on the cost to rebuild it?

The rest of the boat is in very good condition . The owner has redone the floor and carpeting put in new seats. it may need some gel coat work other than the engine.

Engine estimates are general but as low as 1500 and as high as 5000. The worst of it is you don't know until tearing into it.

Not all Targas were aluminum . I believe some targa 19 and 2000 were fiberglass.
