I have a 1990 nitro 175tf w/ Evinrude 115hp that was basically given to me and I have decided to work on it myself. At the moment I'm just checking it out it's been dry docked for a number of years. I have talked to several marinas about the first steps in getting the motor running.I now know that I need to replace the water pump. What kinda challenges am I up against doing this myself for the first time? I have just ordered a repair manual so that I'm not completely in the dark.

Water pump, carb rebuild, fuel line replacement, fuel system cleanse, lower unit lube change, new batteries, electrical system {connectors}, remove and clean. With the proper service manual, and if you are reasonably mechanically inclined, you should have a go at it. A tip....when the carbs are OFF for servicing, NOW is the time to remove the gearcase for pump service. WHY? Because OMC decided to bolt the shift shaft / linkage together under the bottom carb. They are a PAIN to get to, but easily accessed if the carbs are off. I would also replace the VRO as a precaution. You didn't mention the steering in your paraphrase, but I would assume it's frozen. Replace it. Motor will have to come off to do so.

Thanks for your input and as soon as my manual arrives I'll be starting the build, I'm sure I'll have more question. And yes the steering is frozen. Thanks again for your help
