I have a little lateral play in my steering wheel. Is it as easy as removing the center cover and tightening the center nut to fix this? Thanks, Sean

No. The center nut just holds the wheel on the spindle. If your "play" is not left to right and is toward and away from you, it might be the nut but I doubt it. Depends on what kind of steering also.

I'm not sure what type of steering you would call it. I don't mean that it feels like the column is moving, just the wheel kind of feels a tiny loose. No free spinning of the wheel. I'll be tinkering with the boat today and go through all the steering components on the console. thanks, Sean

What Toxic meant by "kind of steering" is whether it is cable or hydraulic.

All the best,

Glenn

I'd check the helm bolts if steering wheel center nut is tight. Ive seen those loosen after a few years due to that helm being heavier than a rack and pinion. At least they used to be,I havent installed one in awhile.

If you have play in your hydro helm you most likely have a little air in the line(s). As a new owner I recomend you take it back to the dealer and have it bled. Getting every bit of play out of the helm isn't impossible, but isn't critical either. It all depends on what you're willing to endure with the play or working out the slack. Good luck. ;)

Follow up: removed center cover, tightened center bolt and all is snug now. thanks, Sean
