Hi Guys

New owner here. Just bought a 2007 Nitro 640 with the 90hp Merc. Love it.

A great deal of fun.

One question I have is: Do these boats pull real hard to the right? At moderate to high speeds it is a very hard pulling to the right, so much so that it would be a disaster to let go.

Is this normal?

I have been poking around this site and really like it. Lots of good info here.

thanks in advance.

if you`re a first time owner you might question all kinds of stuff about the boat. If you are riding by yourself you might think you`re pulling to the right because of the weight issue. I dont wanna sound like a nut so I`ll ask is this your first boat? If so the answer is no. Your weight on the drivers side makes you feel like you are being pulled to the right but in no way should you be going right. I always feel it running by myself but when another person is with me it evens out. Hope this somehow helped.

They definetly pull, not sure if the torque in the motor is the reason.

If I were to let go of the wheel it will turn violently to the right even with two people in the boat. I would expect some pull to the right if I were in it alone.

As part of the pre-delivery the service manager took me out the water and drove it for awhile and his comment was that it was normal. Seems odd.

Thanks for the replies.

This my boat. I hope the pic shows up.

First welcome aboard.

Search past posts for trim tab adjustment, should answer your question.

Thanks, a Google search for "trim tab adjustment" provided lots of info.

I didn't know what to search for so thanks for the tip

Seems a bit much for "normal" torque". I don't notice any torque in my boat, whether I am by myself, have one or two passengers. It is a foot longer than yours, not sure how much difference that makes. (ZX185C w/150). Looks like you are starting at the right point though, good luck.

GaryM:

I just bought a new 2011 Nitro Z6 (115 Pro XS) in August and on the first water test with salesman boat would torque violently to the right. He said the only way I could get rid of the "problem" was to opt for Hydraulic steering. I did and now boat handles fine. Why it handled so badly (and dangerously) at first - I have no idea, but I've seen the "hard pull to right" on a lot of the boards I frequent. Count me in on the class-action lawsuit if it ever comes to that .... I want the $770 I paid for HS .... back in my pocket!

I'll be at the lake this weekend so I will try adjusting the trim tab.

thanks to you fellas, I now know what a trim tab it.
