I just bought a 99 Nitro 640LX and put it in the river yesterday for the first time. The steering is really tight even after getting on plane. In my Polar Kraft there was a bolt under the dash, is that where I should be looking on this Nitro? Thanks for any help.[Always use a crooked hook)

Hey Rodiron im sure bob will chime in on how to check, but i think your steering cable is bad. Mine did exactly that and i changed my cable and helm like bob explained. Now it feels like a brand new boat. If it ends up being the cable you will have to unbolt the motor and scoot it over while u install the new cable. If i aint mistaken i took the nut off and the end of the tilt tube where the cable goes through. I trimmed down to level and the motor would swing freely side to side with the cable unhooked. So mine was bad. I hope this helps.

Rodiron, I just replaced both steering cables on my Skeeter 185c with yammy 150. Several directions on the net and YouTube said u had to unbolt and move the motor but I did not have to. I simply threaded the new cables before bolting them to the helm. This gives you a lot more play in the length of the cables in order to line them up for the tubes. Didn't have a problem. Then pulled the other end to the helm, turned motor in the opposite direction from where the cables entered and tightened the bolts. Drove it for five hours yesterday, drove like a dream. Old cables took both arms and a leg to turn the boat! Good luck

Thanks for the reply both Chris o and JP, I will check out both suggestions and let you know how and what I had for a problem, thanks again. (Always use a crooked hook)

Not to keep kicking a dead horse but what is the chances of the steering cable being wore out and the boat only has 156hrs. on it, I know anything is possible but was wondering about old grease, maybe hardening. Any suggestions on anything to check would be greatly appreciated, thanks, (Always use a crooked hook)

Rodiron, it may only have 156 hours on it but it's 13 years old so the weathering and storage have most likely contributed.
