What's wrong with Penzoil Synthetic for the 2 strokes?

I thought I was moving up from Lubrimatic when I started

buying the Penzoil for the new boat. I ran the Lubrimatic

in my old boat and never had problems but when I bought new this time something in my head told me to buy a more

expensive oil (than lubrimatic that is). Geez that

quicksilver stuff is like $18 a gallon...

Yes it is more expensive but, can save you a ton of headaches later on if you decide to keep the boat. Now there has been some debate on this subject but, for my own personel preference...I wouldn't run Penzoil in my lawnmower. I tried it and the engine smoked more, didn't run as smooth and I actually used more oil.

Just opinion...

i have been using penzoil 100% for two years in a 98 merc.115 2 stroke.when i bought it it had less than a qt. of quick silver oil in it.as i have always used synthetics in everything i own i changed over to the pennzoil after draining as much from the oil tank before adding it. first time to the lake with it after the quicksilver was used up

the motor started smoking more than ever.i got worried and went home. i called pennzoil and they explained that it burned different and the extra smoke was the carbon & old deposits burning off and to give it a chance. next time out it smoked slightly and since then it has never done it again. it has been two years and i have noticed the inside of the engine is very clean and runs w/o any problems. try it a little longer and hopefully it will work out.

good luck

I have been running penzoil full synthetic for the last four years. before that i ran the penzoil premium plus oil. If you want to run a full synthetic the penzoil is a good one. With it i get less smoke and a lot less carbon build up and i never foul plugs no matter how long it idles. if you decide to run full synthetic just make sure you break in the motor first wirth regular oil then make the switch.

My problem with the synthetic in the boat is I am a new boat owner and as such not real sure what to do. After reading a thread on this site a few months ago on this subject and listening to more experianced boat owners than myself I decided to to use Quicksilver. My little 50hp doesn't use that much for it to be a great econimic concern. The other day when I was in the dealership the subject came up and their advice is; synthetic is just fine just DO NOT mix the two types. I am convenced that synthetic is a much cleaner lubricant but for now I'm just using it in all my cars.
