sun morn we went to long point and didn't do much.we were using tubes and dropshot and spooks. we went in around the back of it and as we got into 18 ft. we decided to try something else. as we were getting to leave some fish hit the surface. i threw the spook to it and eeeha! i had a couple of good blowups. next cast i hit a 2.75 smallie. it was spitting up perch and a nice one was getting the perch. while i was unhooking it keith got the other one on a tube. it was 3 lbs. we got a couple more 2's.we were chasing blowups to get these. then i got a monster blowup and stuck it. it came flying out a couple feet and we saw the size. it ended up being the big fish of the weekend 4.1 lbs. as i was unhooking it our other 2 boats came in to see how we were doing(other 3 boats hit the vt side)so we got to show it off and let it go with out handling it to much. it was great. earlier i was saying i just wanted a good blowup on the spook. we got a lot more than that.then at 9 we hit the tires. keith hit a 3.5 on a jig and i got a 2.5 on a weightless senko. thats all we got. we wanted to hit those certian reeds again. in there we hit a 3.2 and a 2.5 and missed 2 more good ones. that group of reeds didn't produce a fish less than 2.5.. needless to say we were very impressed with this section of the lake. and this web site and your info helped us a lot to find shelter in case of high winds and the smallies.it was good to have a good connection in the area. having your number helped as well. your wife gave us directions to the chazey launch. we ddn't have a map yet. so that saved us a lot of non-fishing time. thanks again and it was nice meeting everyone. thanks stan

My pleasure. Give me a shout next time you come up. We had a tough day yesterday. Don't know why. We should have gone back north.

Hey Stan,

Hate to bust your bubble. I got a smallie that weighed in at 4.29 lbs. Go north past the Marine Village Cabins, next point on the NY side, fished around point, in about 15 ft of water. Weighted senko, cabbage clumps and she was hungry. Not too much more to brag about, a few smaller fish, the rest of the day was tough.

Take care,

Bob

I had some huge chasers and swipes at my spinnerbait yesterday in the isolated weeds over around Isle La motte, but only hooked up on some smaller 1-2 lb fish. I think the weather has them confused. Hot then cold and back and forth. Fish don't know if it's summer or fall! We should have been pulling 4 lb smallies hand over fist this weekend. Just didn't come together. I'm going to laugh next week as I post for Marke to read that we had a 65 fish day with clients on the same water we got beat up on this weekend. When they turn on, it's like somebody throws a switch! They just start to feed like crazy. Look careful at Marke's 3+ lber and you'll see the belly is swollen and full of perch and alewive! These old boys and girls get FAT in the fall! That's why WE at Champlain call them footballs not toads. Toads, are small little things you find on the lawn. Footballs, are big, brown and fast!

ok it was my big fish of the weekend. bob c how late did you fish? we got off the water by noon. stan

Hey Stan,

We fished until 2:00. As far as catching fish it wasn't that great of a day for us. Did more scouting then fishing, fish seemed to be scattered all over the place. I did find some promising area's. With a fishery like this there are more good spots to fish then you could fish in a weekend.

I'm sold on going up next year for our club Get-A-Way.

Maybe we could convince the club into two get-a-ways a year, one in June and the other in the fall.

Looking forward to this weekends Dash for Cash. Also I owe you and Keith $15.00 each. My math was a little off when I figured out the price of the cabins, I'll catch up with you Sunday.

Take Care,

Bob

Bob, the fish WERE very scattered. They are half way between fall and summer patterns. Transition in every respect! The overcast had them moving and not schooled up. It's supposed to be cold this week at night which should finally school them up shallow. I will post after this weekends trip. It's been unusually warm this fall so the fish are off.
