Just ordered a PT175 w/75hp. Also included a 9.9 kicker motor. What's the best way to setup the gas? If I rig the 9.9 into the main tank then I have to run pre-mix for both motors as the 9.9 does not have injection, and I loose the value and convenience of the 75's injection system. If I keep the source separate then I have to carry an extra tank for the 9.9 and no doubt have it in the way every time I turn around (which is the way I am leaning right now). I only intend to use the 9.9 on restricted lakes so the rest of the time it will stay in the garage. Anybody got any thoughts or had experience with this?? Or any other hints or suggestions involving kicker motors?? The factory says the boat is scheduled to be loaded out next Thursday, 05/02, so I should have it in a couple of weeks. Geeze, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!!!.... Thanks for any help you can provide. This site is a class act....

Since the 9.9 Merc doesn't have an integral fuel tank you are stuck with using a remote tank. A friend of mine got an older remote tank that is only about a gallon or two and it works great. It holds enough fuel for a day of fishing and it sits nicely in the splash-well area next to the big motor. He figures the little bit of inconvenience is okay since he doesn't fish the low horsepower lakes that much.

Bear's idea sounds good to me,...just use a seperate tank and only bring it along when you use the kicker motor,....otherwise keep everything in the garage and out of your way,...that's what I'd do!!

Jim, Can't help you with a solution. I have a PT185 that I've been thinking of doing the same thing your talking about as there are a few lakes here in Indiana that allows only 10hp or less. I have to admit that I hadn't thought of the fuel supply issue. I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of your set up posted after you get it.

Congratulation on your new boat, you'll love it!

I was told Buy my dealer that the pt175 would not hold a kicker motor and that it would void the warranty on the hull if i installed one. If this is not the case, why did the dealer tell me this.

Bear, I think you are right. Just a small remote and leave it at home when not on restricted lakes. Ken, I did consider the 4 stroke 9.9 but my concern is the weight. The 2 stroke is listed at 73.8# and the 4 is 111#. Since I don't intend to leave it on the boat except when going to restricted waters my concern is being able to lift it on and off. Not as young as I used to be I guess. But I still haven't ruled that option out. The 4 stroke would be a lot simpler if I can chin the weight or rig up a lift in the garage. Would the boat handle the weight ok? 111# plus the 303# of the 75hp, plus bracket, fuel, me, etc.

Mike- my dealer says it's fine. Any comments, Ken?

Thanks for the help, guys....

ive got a 90 rude and a 8 hp merc kicker, and i used to have the remote tank,a 3 gallon tank hooked to a bulkhead fitting in the transom, that was until i disconnected the vro pump and mix now.

the only thing i didnt like about the 3 gallon remote tank is the running out on the lake,or the refilling on the lake when out trolling for salmon for 8 hrs or so,also the space it took up.other than that, whatever you want to do.

find a spot under the deck lid,put a bulkhead fitting on it,and be done with it.i think i have a picture in my library of the fuel fittings i have on my boat if you care to look at them.
