Just thought this was pretty good. Not trying to turn anyone, one way or the other.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a Democrat and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth. She was ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored a selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors has to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all of her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, " How is your Friend Audrey doing?"

She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus, college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't show up for classes because she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter. Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way, you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equitable distribution of GPA."

The daughter visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back. "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican party."

;)

Tex

Great posting Tex, Beka and I both agreed with it to a point. Not to start anything, but unfortunetly our current (and I voted for him) Republican President and majority of congressfolks have NOT been fiscaly conserative over the last 8 years. I hope the last election puts some thoughts into the republican party to move to its fiscal and immigation conserative roots.

Trep... Take out the "extra cost of the war" and we did pretty well... even with the war cost the amount of the annual deficit is going down because the economy has remained strong ( I think as a result of good fiscal policy that did not raise taxes among many things...)

The problem is, the cost of the war hasn't been figured into the budget. It has been "charged" with borrowed money for our grandchildren to pay. In the meantime the last Congress has been spending like a drunk sailor (no offense to any of our troops) in a manor that would make any tax & spend liberal Democrat blush. I think it is very disingenuous for the President to NOW stand before Congress and call for a balanced budget after signing each and every spending bill placed before him...not including the war budget which was originally forecast to be $50 billion but is now looking more like $1.2 TRILLION.

For some interesting reading check out these two articles, one from the Christian Science Monitor, the other The Drudge Report. Neither known for their liberal point of view.

I don't have grandchildren...:D Anyway, even if I did I guess I want National Debt because I certainly don't want anything like the President that the blue lines represent except maybe Ike.:p

What's that old saying?

If at twenty one you're not a Democrat, you have no heart.

If at forty one you're not a Republican, you have no brain....

Uncle Billy

And at 60 If your not back to being a Democrat,You have no money,No job,No home, and No Friends...HAHA HA to you Billy:p JR

The thing that really hacks me off about both parties, is their seemingly inability to simply sit down and find a middle ground solution for many items.

Tex

Problem is .... both parties are being driven by the extreme fringe while the middle ground is left to figure out which is the lesser of two evils. For example...there are a lot of Pro-Life Democrats and Pro-Choice Republicians...there are many Hawk Dems and Dove Republicians... Log Cabin Republicans and anti-gay Democrats (especially among the ethnic voters). I think it's time we quit worring about labels and decide we're all Americans with differant paths to the same goal.
