OK, so those guys are off having fun at the rally. The other 800 of us left behind can still have things to talk about...

After a long delay, I finally got started glassing my flat skiff project. Starting to think about how this thing will be locomoted. Anybody ever use the Honda 2hp four stroke outboard? Trying to decide if it will be quiet enough. There will be oars for really sneaking up on fish, but I'd like to be able to move a bit farther under motor power. It's either that or a transom mount trolling motor.

Also, for you craftman out there. Recommendations on ways to get good painting results? I have a lot of filling and sanding ahead of me, but I haven't decided on a paint system yet. Thoughts appreciated.

One of the things making this project possible is the availability of local and inexpensive labor.

Actually, he doesn't work that cheap now that I think about it...

Sounds like somebody's jealous! Hey Rich, when he's done with your boat, can you put him on my outboard? I know he's got to be better than half the techs aruond here!

BTW, your plaque should arrive some time next week if we don't sell it for beer money first! LOL

Rich, I don't know nuthin' about that size outboard. But..... u-u-u-uh..... Isn't that just about the same stage construction was in last time you posted pictures? Like 6 or 8 months ago? You doing this on a government contract? :^)

Great Boat Rich.

I was a little bit older than your helper when I helped my dad make some wooden boats. All together he made three. They were the john boat type. I enjoyed those days with the old man. I even learned how to cuss while working on the second boat. Good luck with the boat and thanks for the photos.

Scott, I'm building this boat on the 3 year plan. :)

The difference between these and the last photos is the fiberglass work. Notice the joints are dark from the glass and resin? As of last Monday, all of the interior seamwork is done, and the boat is turned over for outside seam fiberglassing. I hope to have this boat ready for paint in a few weeks (or years, whatever).

Bear, I'm hoping Zachary has those same kind of memories. I hope he likes using this boat, and perhaps someday will take his kids fishing in it.

Rich,

I still have the first boat my Dad gave me 40+ years ago...motor died a long time ago...and the boat is a real narrow...real shallow 16' Larsen...but I have so many memories in that boat I could never part with it...besides aluminum just doesn't eat anything so it's cheap to keep.

BTW, I gave my (now) 20 yr old son...my old boat...he used to curl up on the front deck and sleep while "granpa" and "dad" fished...course we had to watch his rod for him...well about 15 years later he is rebuilding that boat because he loves it and his memories...

Rich, you and Zachery are very fortunate to have each other! You are obviously raising him on the "Lifetime" plan!

God bless!
