I put a deposit on a 2005 Nitro 189 Sport with a 115 Tracker Pro Series/Merc 2 stroke. The boat is in new condition.

My only concern is, is the motor powerful enough? Will i be satisfied. i want to fish/ pull tubes etc. 50/50

I'm picking it up Thursday.

Fishing will be no issue; critical motor there is the trolling motor. As far as skiing, folks skied back in the day with a 15ft Glastron and a 40HP so I would think no real issue; tubing either. That said ... you are going to read responses that say you can't ski or tube with less than an Atlas rocket engine. Will you be happy? Only you can say when you see the results. Would be better if you asked these kinds of questions before you lay down the depoist.

Thanks, I know i can get the deposit back if i need, they are taking me out in it the day i pick it up so i can test it out make my final decision. Thursday cant get here soon enough.

For fishing i'm ok, i'm going from a 15ft boat with a 15hp tiller to this. So My biggest concern with the new boat is speed and power. I want to get up on a plain with a full boat, its rated for 6 people. I know 2 strokes have better hole shot so that should help? Correct? i don't know allot about this motor. Its is a 2005, 115hp Tracker Pro Series made by Merc (Injected 2 stroke). Is it a good motor?

Get as much engine as you can afford. I personally would go with at least a 150 HP, with a loaded boat. What is the maximum HP? Let us know the outcome.

Well, this is a great deal on a like new 2005. Loaded, very low hours. Max HP for boat I thinks is 150. But the 115 is what it has.

I have a 185 Sport, which is only 18', with a 150hp Merc XR6. The 189 Sport is listed as 19' 5" and 93" beam. I would walk away with anything less than the max HP for that boat.

Test ride it with the number of people and gear you would expect to have. Put 6 people in the boat and see how it is getting up on plane. If it meets all of your expectations, enjoy!!

On the water test and you need to drive. With cable steering you need to be awhare of the tourque steer on this set up. If it does not have a hotfoot type throttle you might want to make that upgrade so you can keep both hands on the wheel. Trim on the wheel another nice upgrade.

Just my thoughts
