OK, help a guy out a little. I have an '89 GT 150 on a TF 1800. Narrower hull than the newer designs but deeper too. Does surprisingly wellin rough water. My prop is a 14 X 24 1/2 Raker 3 blade. WOT I run at 5100 RPMs and about 56-57 mph. Sound right? I have talked to many people about the older OMCs and everyone including techs have told me that they were designed to run hot, near redline which is 5500. I checked my motor height per folks at Tracker that remember that hull and know a LOT more about my boat than I do, and it is set at the optimal height. Should I be getting any more revolutions? My speed is fine, but if I can pick 1-2 mph or should be running hotter for the durability of my motor I want to know.I don't really have the HP to turn a bigger prop. If I went down but up in pitch, what would be the result? Any help would be appreciated. I just got my prop back again and have to tweak it with the shop. Tonight is perfect! 75 degrees and the lake is like glass!

Thanks Bob, stuck rings is what did me in this last time. Should have seen those pistons! Scored bad. It is completely rebuilt now. I am running double oil for break in. Should I run tuner in it soon or wait? So my RPMs are fine though? I just had that carbs rebuilt too, should I mess with them yet or monitor the performance?

I've got the '90 175 TF with the GT150 and my motor is running nearly identical to yours. Hole shot sucks doesn't it? Would love to try a 4 blade.

Yeah, but I put a hydrofoil on it, and it helped a great deal. Without it and loaded, she planes out in about 6 miles! LOL

Hey Bob, I have the same boat as Rob but with a Johnson 1995 150 Fastrike. I'm using a 4 blade SS 23" Jonhson renegade prop. 59mph at 5350 rpm on gps. I' carb tuned it last year. Any advise how to keep this baby running for a long time would be helpfull. I'm happy with the speed and hole shot and feel this is an optimum setting without adding a jackplate. 1.5" below the pad

Dave, Fastrikes are great outboards. Friend of mine has one.

OK update. Ran the ole money pit last night with a newly tuned prop. Water was a little choppy, but at WOT (most extra oil is gone now from tank) I hit 4900 - 5000 rpms and 55 mph. I assume on calmer water, when I can trim out more, and the rest of the oil is gone from the gas, and it is completely broke in, I should be hitting 5100 rpms and about 57 mph. Sounds about perfect to me. Thanks for all the help guys. Bob, how much should I expect to invest in altering the timing and a new set of reeds? Keep in mind, I just dumped $4k into it, and still need new seats and a gelcoat refinish!

Final tally after break in is, WOT, 5000 rpms, and 56 mph! Not too shabby!
