My 640LX is absolutely the hardest boat to load that I have ever experienced. I think the front bumper is a little to high so I have to stand on the trailer and manually lift the bow to position it properly on the rubber mount and connect the wench strap to the bow eye. The bracket is all welded and doesnt look to be adjustable.



Shouldn't I be able to drive on, hook the eye and just drive away without all the lifting:blink:?
 
You should be able to...



Sounds to me like you have the trailer a little too far back in the water....



Too far back usually means that your bow will come in level/under the rubber mount... to far out of the water and you cant give it enough juice to get it all the way out.



Sounds like you are close now... just pull up an inch or two and try it again... you'll find the sweet spot...



Another thing, once the trailer "grabs" you (that moment when you are centered on the trailer)... have your motor at about 1/4 trim and give her some gas... the result is that you will lift the bow (like going on plane) for that last little bit.



 
Ditto what Sim said, the trailer sounds to be too deep in the water, being that I cannot power load in most lakes by me, I have to float it on the trailer and then winch up the rest of the way, the "sweet spot" is crucial in getting the bow to lift ever so slightly by the bunks and angle so it ends up with the bow over the rolloer vs. being below it.

My 185 trailer has to be pretty shallow to go right.....a rule of thumb is about half the bunk submerged. When you find the sweet spot...just visualize where your trailer is.
 
That's right TEE, my PT 185 also had to be very shallow to load correctly, both bow and to get her centered in the rear:huh:, stop it now, anyway, yeah if to deep the rear would not sit on bunks correctly and would be resting on the strakes (sp).



 
I have an 04' 640LX and it is the easiest rig I have ever loaded. Barely hit the bunk boards and drive it right on up. Never misses even in a cross wind. If I hit the trailer a little off center it straightens right up by it self as I drive it up. I back it in to wet all the bunks, then pull it up so a couple inches of fender show. Works for me every time. The front bumper should be directly above the front eye for the winch strap when loaded. Sounds like you might be trying to put the bow eye above the front roller.

I agree with Byron. I have an 1998 640LX and it is my first boat. I have no problems in loading. I back till only about 1/2" of the fendors is out of the wather then just a tap on the power and I'm on. The hook goes in and I just have to snug the the strap. On the trim I do about an half trim that is because of the angle of the ramp that I load at. Next time try this you should have better luck. All in all it is a great boat. Tows great and handles in the water great.

It does indeed sound like your trailer was in the water too far. Finding a sweet spot is good advice but the sweet spot will change with varying ramp angles. I try to leave my trailer short when it is windy and put it in deep when there is little to no wind. Good luck, you just need to practice a little more.

I experienced the exact same problem with my '06 901 on every ramp I used. I tried backing in deeper and I tried going shallower with no success. It always seemed that the winch stand was just too high.

I've had 10 different boats and never had this problem, so I stopped second guessing myself :wacko:and called Tracker Marine Customer Service. I explained the problem to Jeff Gardner.

Jeff had me take some measurements and add them to a drawing he emailed to me the following day.

I added the measurements to the drawing and emailed it back to Jeff, along with a few digital pics of the winch stand and how the boat sat on the trailer.

Within days, Jeff responded back with the following 2 emails:

Good afternoon,

I called and left you a message on your machine also. After some research we have determined that we need to repalce the winch stand on your trailer. If you can confirm this is your correct address I can send the winch stand direct to you, and you can install it yourself or I can assist you through a dealer.

Good Morning,

The winch stand should ship out to you tomorrow. We are also going to send you an E-Z loader. This mounts behind the winch stand and will make loading much easier.
