OK no jack nuts here.
I've got an '89 Johnson GT 150, with a 3 blade Raker, 14 1/2 X 24. I WAS running WOT @ 5200 rpms and 52-55 mph, BEFORE the prop ding! Got the prop fixed and recupped, but lost 200 rpms and 2 mph. It's back in the prop shop, I think they cupped it too much and I can trim it all the way out, so that explains the loss. Will keep you updated. Anyhow, what if I went to a 4 blade, size it down and up the pitch? I know that normally I would gain rpm's but lose top end, but I've heard that in rare occasions, it creates more lift in the transom thus reducing drag and increasing speed. Since my boat is so narrow, I thought, maybe I'd try it. Plus with 4 blades, blowout is pretty well minimized! Any thoughts? I want my cake and to eat it too. More rpm's, more speed, and better bite in the water. Whatta ya say folks?
