My power trim makes a squalling noise when trimming down, sprayed the shaft with wd-40 and it helped a little bit. I trimmed the motor all the way up, and took the yellow cap off to check the fluid and about a table spoon of fluid ran out, im assuming that means its full? Any insight would be helpful. It doesnt make the noise when trimming up, just down. How do i know if the unit is full, by fluid running out when i take the cap off?

I don't really have an answer for you but mine does the same thing. Sounds kinda like a cat in pain to me, only when trimming down .:D Dealer said nothing was wrong so I just let it be.

Take some marine grease and put it in the bearings at the end of the trim rods. If that doesn't do it there is always some "noise" that comes out of the rods, might have air in them and need to bleed the system.

It's common for some of these units to "squeal" when trimming down. It is more than likely as suggested a little air in the system, but no worries. The "cat in pain" is very true, kinda like when a rockin chair squashes their tail.....don't ask me how I know that!!!

I agree with the "air" diagnosis as mine made the same noise (sorry cat), just make sure the fluid was not discolored as you may have a bad seal and water got in there. I replaced the piston rod seals myself, not a tough job. Good luck.

Bad boy Mac! ;) The problem with greasing them is that when applying it is sometimes too hard to stop ...:wacko::lol::wacko: Puns intended.
