Not sure if this topic has been covered before, but maybe worth repeating anyway.

This past Saturday at our club tournament it rained...good and steady for 5 hours! Sunday wasn't much good for drying out the boat. I was horrified to find 2 - 3 INCHES of water in my front storage (rod locker) compartments! Seems that someone at Nitro thinks the drain holes should be in the upward corners of the compartment where the water would need to be atleast 5 inches deep before it would reach the drain hole!!!!!!

Okay.....sooooo while sucking up the water and drying out the contents I had this idea!! I went to Home Depot and bought a 98 cent roll of 1/4"OD plastic tubing (like you use in fish aquariums and ice makers). I bought the size that would fit inside the drain plug and I used Liquid Nails to secure it. I made the tubing extra long so that I could push 2 - 3 inches into the subfloor where the water drains. I used approx. 1 foot of tubing on each compartment. So now when it rains the water "SHOULD" flow from the drain thru the tubing and into the hull area.

I have a 1999 Nitro 700LX and I sure hope someone at Nitro has moved the drain holes to the lower side and perhaps have installed 10 cents worth of tubing so the inside of the locker won't get wet.

ps.....I tried taking pictures but they didn't come out well to see.

Well that is a poor design. I did not have that problem with my 896 or my 911. I have gotten the contents wet but it has never held water. Had a Champion 204 were the lockers would hold water, There was nothing like drying out all of your stuff after a weekend of fishing.

Rick,

Does the water drip into the lockers and get everything wet?

My holes are in the cockpit end of the lockers BUT on the outside (hinge side) of the opening. They should be on the inside (lower side) and Nitro/Tracker should have put tubes in so everything in the locker won't get wet.

Well.....it was a quick/inexpensive fix so hopefully this idea will help someone.

The drain for the center storage compartment in the front deck of my Nitro2000 was about 2" forward of the rear of the compartment. The floor was carpeted and slanted to the rear. Water would collect in that last couple inches of the compartment and the carpeting would wick it all the way through..... Mildew City.

me!

Hey Me!

Yeah....I know about Mildew City...on rain gear, life jackets, wind suit, extra clothes/sneakers! UGH!! Hopefully I've solved that problem!!

Nice to hear from you!!!! LOL
