Ouestion on Teleflex trim on Steering column

Should the dealer have left the trim on my shift lever working or is it common to disconnect when a trim lever installed on steering column?????? how are most of them rigged???

On mine the trim works on the shift lever also? I have only driven 3 boats set up with a trim lever and all of them where this way.
