I have a Nitro 160TF . It is the little 16' boat, and I really like it. I have a Minn kota Maxxum trolling motor. I have back problems, and I am thinking about a hand control motor. I thought about the recessed pedal, but I don't have much deck space. Any imput greatly appreciated.

There are a couple of things to try before I would go to the expense of replacing the TM. First off, a hand control is really (IMHO) no better than foot for back issues unless you want to sit and run the TM. A lot of guys in Florida run them because they use the "constant on" feature. Bill in VA ran a hand control and he might chime in as to why. I would first try getting rid of the "butt seat" if you use it. I found when I was guiding a lot that my back was getting torched and I had a recessed peddle. I was told to loose the leaning seat because it put you in the same position every time you used the TM. After an adjustment period, I pretty much never used it and my back was fine. Very rough water I will still put it in but no other time.

Just my two cents. You have a foot pedel anyways so why not recess it as it will give you a better stance instead of one foot cocked up in the air throwing off your back all day on the water.

I also agree with Tox, if you can get away without the pedestal do it!!!!

Randy!

Try using the folding seat with the short hydraulic pedestal if its serious back problems. If its minor aches and pains, I agree with TOX, standing with no seat is the least painful. Also, get good quality shoes that are made for standing on a boat all day.

I hasd the hand control MK 101. My back would not handle all day with the foot control. I sat in a dull seat and not a pedestal. Loved the hand control until my new boat. Had it installed with an MG remote control. ?The best of both worlds. Couse now I have arthritiws on my finger from oushing the buttons. Only kidding! If you can spend the money I woulf go with remote control. IMHO

I have a Minnkota with CoPilot. The remote is mounted to my rod and no foot control. Works great. Love it.

I also have a minnkota I spent the $90 or whatever it cost for the CoPilot, just hang the remote around my neck with the lanyard that came with it,I may never use my foot control again. It's a great investment, only takes a couple of minutes to screw it to the side of the trolling motor and its ready to use, and you have your whole front deck to use with nothing to trip over.
