OK guys now that I've gotten your attention. I busted a chunk out of my skeg (look at the pics in my library)and I can't decide whether to file and hacksaw it back into shape. Put a skeg gaurd on it or have a new one welded on. I'm kinda leaning toward the hacksaw-file job due to economics. Look at the pics and give me your opinion. Thanks for the feedback.......Cmack

I agree with Ken and/or Rick. Either weld it or have a replacement put on.

Ain't boater's insurance grand?

That was NOT cool. You can't go around saying stuff like that and then talk about a SKEG. What's the matter with you man? Oh yeah, weld it. Need a heliarc to do aluminum.

Almost forgot, if you hit it hard, be sure to pull your screw plugs and check for water. If you shift that lower unit hard it can cause a break in the gaskets/seals and you can take on water. Not that I've done it, I've heard! LOL

the front looks a little close to the bulitt.heating i hope doesnt warp anything, but a seal replacement is probally cheap insurance also.i took the lower 6 inches off mine, welded a replacement merc skeg in its place after grinding it to shape.

if you do the weld thing, have them tig weld it in place.better quality of weld.

My wife saw the title of my post and said "shame on you guys for even opening a message like that" Oh well whatcha gonna do....Cmack

Yeah....TIG it man! TIG is BEST for that sort of thing.

Another true story: I was fishing on Champlain near one of my favorite islands that has permanent residents. I was fishing near the shoreline when some people came down to their beach. The woman (30ish) takes off her sarong type outfit and walked in the water up to her knees (facing me) and washes up then walked back to shore and chilled out. Summertime and lakes are a good thing!!
